Newp from today's SB Online Auction

GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Taler, 1574. Goslar Mint. Heinrich Julius (1589-1613). NGC AU-58.
Dav-9060; MB-138. Toned and attractive.
I'm very excited to have won this; these early thematic talers from Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel are tough to get in nice grade. I actually won another but will delay its announcement until later (for reasons I'll explain later too).

Nice addition EVP! A patina of that nature is meant for a 16th century taler. I echo the admiration for the early Brunswick thematic talers - they have good backstories.
Sweet !!!
Ok, here is the "secretive" piece from SB, lot 70610, a penny from King Eadgar (959-975).
The reason I was so secretive is was misattributed by PCGS as SCBC 1131 (a scarcer type) when it's actually SCBC 1132, which is a rare late N.W. type. The difference between the two types is the reverse with 1132 having a mint signature. How rare is this? A search in CNG's archives and across the broader Internet reveals no recent example. None in Wayne (CNG), and none in the recent Williams (Spink) nor Lesser (DNW) sales.
And there is a backstory to this too. A few days before this auction was to go live, @Nap reminds me of this during our lengthy and thorough preparation for CNG 108. I tell him nothing for me in SB, but he mentions this coin to me. (I think he initially also misattributed this coin, but knew that PCGS and SB both also misattributed it.) And the reason I was secretive is that I didn't want to say anything until I received the lots. (I will let him explain how it came to be that I got to keep this coin even though he noticed the misattribution -- because there is more to this backstory that is not my place to say.)
So back to this coin:
I have yet to crack this coin out, but it looks very wholesome in hand and probably grades GVF but I can also see it being a very nice VF. The moneyer is Thurmond, mint Chester. Issued probably circa 970.
In my 2014 SCBC, the prices in VF for 1131 and 1132 are £750 and £1500. So, yeah, I am very happy.

As for the Lichttaler, I can see it as a 58. Aside from the as-made problems with strike and planchet, the coin is quite wholesome. Nice old-time patina covering mark-free surfaces and some remaining luster.
In contrast to German grading, if this were raw in a Kuenker auction I think they'd grade it somewhere between fVZ and VZ+.

It's very heavy! So much so that I recalibrated my scale twice just to make sure.
