Are toned coins "worth" the premium? That's a loaded question with many answers. In my opinion, some are worth a "significant" premium. With experience and market perspective, a collector has to decide what risk they wish to take their with their purchase (hopefully using discretionary funds).
I've paid a premium for what I perceive to be eye appealing coins and believe I may have trouble realizing a break even point if I were to sell in today's market. However, I do not feel I need to worry about this because I don't need to sell and I don't have a large collection that feels burdensome from a dollar commitment standpoint. Those are factors you may also want to consider.

Lance, I have an almost idenitcal 1836 RE half. I wish I had a good pic of it to place here. I will make an attempt this evening when I get home from work. It's not a plus, but it's a 58 and has lots of colour.
Found this one in a dealer junk box, paid $2.00
The coin was housed in the envelope within a plastic insert.
Have no idea what caused the deep blue, I liked it.
