I got something like that from Sears when I was 10 or 11. Actually had an illuminated magnifier with a mm scale. That would be handy now! It was big and was basically a flashlight with a magnifier head on it. It took C batteries!

Maybe they didn't have them in Canada (I was born in 1959).
