Improperly listed numismatics, no ebay bucks?

I bought over $6000 in PCGS and NGC certified numismatics coins that were mis-listed in the bullion/gold category. Ebay said I was out of luck on ebay bucks because of that. My argument is that the category of a listing doesn't change the fact of what they are, numismatics not bullion.

Not gonna win that battle. I've bought a few that were mislisted as well, and been surprised when I didn't get the bucks. It SHOULD show you how much you might earn when you bid/buy though, so there's no excuse really to be surprised.
You will not win with Ebay.
Unfortunately the eBay bucks system is automated, and goes by the category the item is listed in - not the actual item. And as jwitten said above, each listing shows exactly how much in eBay bucks you will receive for the given item before you bid on it, so they are upfront about it.
Is there a percentage cost differential between bullion and numismatic categories for sellers or do they pay the same?
Works both ways. You can earn ebay bucks on bullion that is not listed in a bullion category. Cheap way to stack when they offer the bonus bucks.

Been buying lots of bulk 90% recently. More and more finding it listed in the bullion category. It's a shame not earning bucks when the item you are purchasing is eligible.

I like to know the difference in the FVF percentage too. I had asked a dealer once about a moving a misplaced slabbed coin listed in the bullion categories.
He couldnt move it because Ebay charges him different %.
I have an ebay store and my FVF is the same for all coin/bullion listings.

The big bullion guys clearly get a substantial fee discount on bullion sales.
The small guys are subsidizing that with higher fees.
Level playing field days of Ebay are loooooong gone.
If you expected ebay bucks, you should have verified BEFORE you hit the BUY button that it showed you would receive ebay bucks.
Since they were mistakenly listed, as you put it, in the bullion category, I would go out on a limb and say that it did not show any ebucks would be given. You assumed they would

I believe this is due to the fact that, when listed in bullion, the forced return policy is different and the seller is more protected.

The issue is pretty cut and dried. The rules say no eBay bucks for items in the bullion category. It does not say no eBay bucks for bullion. So, anything in that category is not eligible, and anything (including bullion) in the other coin categories is eligible.
The seller messed up and you should have asked him to change categories.

Once an auction is started you can't change the category, so no they would have been unable to change the category on the auction with bids.
I got a good deal anyway.
stop using best match and go to the category. Not always the seller anyway , ebay changes the names of categories , drops categories , and adds new ones and things get moved. Also sometimes their idiotic sell your item forms helpfully moves stuff to where it thinks it should be.
That's happened to me a few times... now I'm very careful to look at the "You'll earn $x.xx if you buy this today" message below the bidding panel.
I choose "US coin" and not "bullion" when I filtered my search; but unfortunately some good find happened to be under bullion. I don't all sellers aware of it and maybe the listing mistakenly marked on such.
