IMHO the market in general and the FS market in particular is so dormant that no FS will move well, regardless of mintage. Now Rare Plastic? That's a whole different Ballgame. If someone were to offer a 2017-P Lincoln in ultra rare Plastic, the frenzy around it would make Bitcoin look tame.

did anyone see the American Experience episode this week on Into the Amazon, Teddy Roosevelt's trip charting an unknown amazon river. Pretty cool story.

The asking price for Eleanor uncirculated coins remains stable, suggesting that sizable dealer returns for Ford and Nixon are coming soon.

I believe Eleanor will always be key or co-key at the very least.

Oooh score— those are low numbers for Ford and Nixon! Only a 9 coin difference. They’re both new keys like Lucy Hayes and Lucretia were.

Darn. Jackie Robinson got its butt beat bad by these Spouse Coins. And Eleanor got beat down also .

Hmmmm....... how many Fords and Nixons are in my Junk Box anyway?

Might have to do a tally one day. No hurry.

After the first year, the spouse coins have all had crazy low sales numbers. Obviously, that's because they're ugly and expensive. Opinions can change...eleven UNC's under 2000 and six proofs under 2500 in total sales. Investing in the aforementioned is a solid risk-reward bet in my opinion.

    edit--The four Liberty coins aren't ugly ;)

It will be sort of interesting to watch these Spouse Coins and the Brass Medals also. I've got some of the lowest mintage ones, have to stifle a yawn when I think about it.

The 2014‘s are tough. I have a complete medal set except for 2014. I think they were on sale for an hour.

$710 for a Hoover set, WOW. I don't have any info on these...is there a thread?

  • FullStrikeFullStrike Posts: 4,353 ✭✭✭

I have probably 24 Coins between the BU Roosevelt (10), Johnson, Nixon, and Ford FS Coins. I've never sent a Coin in for slabbing but I'm thinking just the submission Postage & Insurance alone will be really big. Can I save anything by taking them to the next Baltimore Show and doing a direct submission? Even if it only gave me enough to cover my travel momey I think that would be a deal. Baltimore in about 2005 was the only big show I ever went to. I think maybe it's time for a repeat, but NOT on a Saturday at 2 PM !

It’s a spreadsheet compilation of the mint’s weekly reports. Those were the last mintages reported for each of those low mintage coins.

  • kiyotekiyote Posts: 5,588 ✭✭✭✭✭

It is pretty tight, spreadwise. Eleanor Roosevelt was/is far more popular than Ford or Nixon. She’s iconic.

Ford still lowest. 1827. Only 13 lower than Nixon. I'm guessing this is about it till the final, audited reports.

agree, a pair of eleanor roosevelt gold coins were sold for more than $5800 a couple of days ago at bay, man..., talking about serious collectors.

Thank you! I have 2,008 for McKinley UNC's?

  • OverdateOverdate Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭✭✭

In the long run I expect the First Spouse proofs will outperform the uncs. Most collectors would rather have proofs, which typically outsell the uncs by 2-1 or more for regular commems and gold/silver eagles.

firstspousegoldcoin.com also has McKinley at 2,008 so I’m inclined to think that number is correct. Very low mintage regardless.

I believe the Harrison proof is 3,046, which would make it #15.

Eleanor is #3 on both lists and may be the key PF & MS coins in the series. If not the highest priced, I imagine she will be very close to Coolidge and Ford. I could see prices close to $10K for the Eleanor pair in a few years.

You have one out of every 190 Roosevelt’s!

Did you order those from the mint at the same time?

Grace Coolidge leads the proofs with 2315.

Eleanor Roosevelt is the 3rd in that running , with 2377.

  • drei3reedrei3ree Posts: 3,430 ✭✭✭✭

The final audited numbers won't be out for a few years. It's not often, but there are instances where the numbers change significantly.

Yes, I ordered all 10 in separate orders so I'd have 10 " sealed / unopened" boxes. This was the first count down I ever participated in. I kept going back and clicking as if I was a drone in a Slots Parlor again.

It's been a bit painful watching, waiting, wondering these past few years. In the meantime I hedged my bet with a few orders of the other contenders.

And in the end..... well.... I got a small pile of bullion. Beats what I'd have from pulling a Slot Handle.

PS - I have a few other of the FS Kitties, somewhere. The Martha I remember very well .... hideous! That WILL be the first to go to the melters - one day ... hopefully soon.

  • FullStrikeFullStrike Posts: 4,353 ✭✭✭

I've been doing some reading of past posts on this thread and I've learned a few things. Seems like I have a Proof Eleanor somewhere in my accumulation . One day soon I need to dig through ALL my stash and do some trimming. At the very least I need to do an inventory.

Well looks like I have work to do. The Mint has nothing at all for me this year so I'll be very busy just cleaning out the Closet.
