Close call and my VF20-25 opinion would be predicated on a review of the surfaces/fields. If it looks in hand as it does in the image, VF20 is reasonable. My biggest concern is the overall flat look to Victoria's cheek which may swing the tide the other way.

In taking a second look at the enlarged images of both the obverse and reverse, I think a grade in the 20-25 range is appropriate.

I believe a US TPG would VF this coin. What is the black stuff on the reverse?

Looks like a perfect textbook VF to me! Nice coin!

Edit to add..as nice and original as it is I think it would grade 25-30.

Very nice....VF 20 if using NGC or PCGS, as the hair has worn into the cheekbone. ICCS might say F 15. But the most important thing is that it's original. You might want to use a coin care product to clean off surface dirt before submitting.

It looks to me that there is enough detail on that piece to make an EF40. It is deserving of an acetone soak to remove the the soil.

I think that it's VF-30+. Even ICCS would grade it more than a 20.

It looks like a nice coin, but I am always struck by how many folks (both collectors and dealers) suggest to soak or otherwise remove dirt, grime or debris from coins prior to certification.

Guess I need to review Charlton again and get up to date on Canadian grading.

VF30 max with ICCS. Hope you get a 40 but unlikely.

Looks okay to me considering the marks and flat cheeks. The surfaces have also lost its sheen. Might have a grade of somewhere between 20 and 25.

VF or near so, but the carbon deposit on the reverse is worrying, as it might be eating into the metal.
