The "real" reason why we should check submission status obsessively. Pictures added for Tonerguy.

--- after speaking with CS they are in the process of helping me fix this. KUDOS to PCGS.

I used to think it was because I was so anxious to know my grades but lately I am changing that thinking. The real reason is to avoid Customer Service mistakes. I shall explain.

I mailed an order in early November with the intent on getting it through the system without a delay for the Holidays and the DUN Show delays. It was a Modern order submitted as "US Secure" using the online submission form. Typically I wait till I get within a day or two of the expected turn-around time before I start that obsessive checking. This time I checked a few times Mon/Tues and for whatever reason never looked yesterday. So today before I left for work I checked my e-mail and was happily surprised, my grades were available and my order had shipped!!

I went to my account page and that's when aggravation set in.

The coins were Modern issues, 40% Half-Dollars and some SBA's that are all color coins I wanted TV'd which is why I used the Secure service. Much to my dismay, when I followed the links to the cert check page for the images there were none. A look at the cert info shows --- Holder Type/Standard. Not a big deal on the surface except that the time constraint I had hoped to avoid is now in play.

Now I'll be lucky to get the order back into the system by December 20th. I hope PCGS does me good when I call this afternoon so I can get them before the FUN Show shutdown.

The moral of the story, check often to head off any confusion. Then you'll be able to halt a shipment before it leaves the factory.

3 1 34436580 9571 1979-P SBA$1 MS66 USA - a nicely toned coin from a Dansco.
4 1 34436581 9578 1981-P SBA$1 MS65 USA - another Dansco toner.
5 1 34436582 9581 1999-P SBA$1 MS67 USA - modest tone from a Littleton album.
6 1 34436583 99592 1980-S SBA$1, DC PR68DC USA - the most intensely toned SBA I have found.
7 1 34436584 99595 1981-S SBA$1 Type 2, DC PR67DC USA - PCGS continues to not like my toned Proofs.

If it makes you feel any better I sent an express order in , followed all the guidelines including marking the outside of the package express. It's been in the prep stage for 9 days now. I guess the definition for express is slow as....

I nipped 1 in the but recently. Submitted a bunch of Half's and right in the middle of the run one was listed as a quarter! Called and had it corrected.

Last week on one of my orders I noticed they gave 3 out of the 4 coins the Variety. I called them right away and talked to a Lady named Darlene? She told me they would stop my order before shipping and let the Variety person look again. She actually called me back 2 days later to tell me that I was right and the coin was fixed and order ready to ship.

All four coins were sent thru secure plus and I noticed when the order was done that 3 out of the 4 were showing Standard holders and before I could call they shipped the order. Yesterday I got them in the Mail and was surprised to see ALL four are in secure plus holders so the problem is online in the certificate. The true view on all 4 did pop up a few days later than the grades. I will call them back to get that fixed.

You should always watch your order thru the process as that will help them cut down MECHANICAL Errors.

    Enjoy Tom

What would be really great is the ability to get text message updates as the coins move through the process. Maybe with a link to view the status of your submission?

I emailed them last week about a TrueView that wasn't showing up. They responded almost immediately, apologized for the delay, and had the image posted later that day. I am happy to provide you with the person's email address who helped me, if you like.

actually if they had more information on the orders page it would be good. at the account "my orders" page they could add something for Type of Service, such as Crossover, Secure, etc. it would help.

Working on a toned SBA set... I would love to see the TVs on these when you get them...

Text message updates as a submission goes through the grading process would be great. Having the opportunity to catch something before shipment would also be great. Check a box on your pending order and shipping will be delayed by one day after your "We're about to ship" notification, allowing you to check that everything seems OK, such as correct holder, TrueViews were done, no mechanical errors. During that day, you can flag something like that for review, release for shipping, or just let the day expire and have the coins ship. I suppose if you wanted to regrade coins, you could do that as well, and not incur the extra shipping time and cost.

John, that is an outstanding, well thought out suggestion, all of it. perhaps you could direct it to CS someone because it sounds simple enough to implement.

not a TrueView but here's a picture of the 1980-S. before I sent it I had to soak in acetone to remove some glue/foreign substance from the reverse. although there are some places where the tone isn't present it is quite vibrant overall and has a very good contrast between the devices and the fields. although some will obviously question the legitimacy of the tone, all I can say is that it came from a Litttleton coin album where t was for at least five years. I know that because it was in the album at my bosses store from 2008-9 until mid-2014. some of the other coins had typical album tone but this one was spectacular.

I think the glue came from the album where the seal of the green paper to the cardboard was poorly done.
