Blue Flip Question

There is a card in a blue flip I’m considering that has a label that I don’t recall seeing before.

Admittedly I don’t have many blue flips. This one is labeled “Trading Card” as opposed to “1979 OPC” and such. Is that an indication of the card being deemed trimmed?

    PSA stopped labeling the blue flips with the card info something like 2 years ago or so. It just means that someone subbed it relatively recently. Nowadays, if you want the card info on the flip, you have to sub it under one of the red flip PSA/DNA combinations they offer. I personally do not care for "Trading Card" on mine so I stopped subbing with the blue DNA specials.

    Kevin - When the card is in the Blue Flip, only the autograph is being authenticated. The card could be a reprint or a fake. When in the Red Flip, both the auto and card are being authenticated.

    Blue flips are such a dumb designation because in terms of population reports, they are all ghosts. PSA never created a pop report for them so there's no way of knowing the numbers of certain signed cards...let alone knowing whether certain signed cards even exist.

    I think PSA used to have a "blue flip to red flip" service so your signed cards could make the pop report. I hope they bring it back someday because I'd use it.

    Thanks all for takeing the time to reply.

    So to go from a blue flip to red with a card that already has the autos authenticated do you need to only pay for grading of the card or do they slap you with the auto fees again as well? If so that kind of sucks. It just looks kind of lame saying trading card. Would only really want the card listed as Authentic anyways. While it's a nicely centered card the corners are all very well loved. All three autos are great though.

    I pulled the trigger already so I'll ad some scans when it arrives.

    There's a "grade add-on" option for blue flips. Choose "crossover" from the submission menu. Its $10. Though, with separate shipping, it's a bit more.

    If it's blue flip, all they'll state now is "Trading Card" w/either Authentic or a grade for the auto.

    Red flip, you can have Authentic or a grade for the card as well.

    Yes, the card is labeled and Authentic w/auto grade of 10. Blue flip will no longer get the card name and has never technically authenticated the card.

    That's why they only label them "Trading Card" now on blue flips. With the set/card title on there, people assumed the card was verified authentic as well. Most of the old blue flips do have authentic cards in them, but there were liability issues with auto authenticators who aren't card specialists.
