Now I'm all un-American.
Now I'm gonna end up with a pile of strange looking coins I can't read.

But .....they're purdy. Purdier than a bean even. :p

The coins of Severus Alexander make for an impressive series, for collecting.

They will simply be a start. I am buying coins that please me visually.
Actually I did that with US, but US ....other than having different SIZES.... tends to be a lot of same designs.
I'm finding the variety of darkside pretty fun.

And that's my goal. I am done with the grade race and paying prices for coins that don't warrant that kind of outlay simply to be LOOKED AT..

Which is what I did with my US. I still have some nice US early gold and early type but have sold a lot of duplicate DESIGNS.

    I dunno.

Since coins are my "entertainment" I want to get as much mileage as I can.

I've ...dabbled... in darkside and sure wish I had kept what I sold over the years.

As....now..... my ex $85 coins seem to be present $350-600 ones. :D

I'm even meeting some pretty nice people PM'ing me re: my new direction.

IOW..... so far, so good. I expect this to continue. And looking for cool coins is fun no matter the language. Artistic design has no borders. :)

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

    There's a "B" in the trident. Isn't that Bombay?

My mistake. If there is a 'B' in the trident it is Bombay. 1930 is one of the two years (1925) that was struck at London. I would have thought that NGC would have put the mintmark (if any) on the label.

Welcome to the dark side >:) I went on a similar transition as you, starting with US, moving to early US gold specifically, then colonials, then ancients... and I've never looked back.

Ancient gold? I would say you are hooked on the darkside now. Great coin.

Welcome to the dark side! There is also the grey side if you happen to fancy Canadian coins. Sort of like U. S. lite, minus the stickers and beans and angst, well mostly without angst unless you bought the bulk of your collection prior to the 2008 downturn....

When i first started coins, I had complete Danscos of Canada, Mexico, Hong Kong, and US.
These were the old red Danscos.
    Wish I had them now.

Glad you picked that up! It looks great!

I was following that but couldn't justify branching out just yet.

Beautiful! But you have to show the reverse too ;)

Now that I'm in the loop, I've been noticing various hairstyles on Athena.
Has anyone ever categorized them and does the style indicate where it was minted?

Both the obverse and the reverse can be used to aid in classifying where it was minted. There was a massive study done by a researcher named Martin Price entitled "The Coinage in the name of Alexander the Great" which covers off all of the varieties (thousands of them) and categorizes them quite granularly. A tough collection by die variety but you can get the major minting locations as a set if interested :)
