I've been away for a while, started a new business which keeps me off the streets in my semi-retirement, and took the opportunity to try to gain a little more focus on collecting. Over the past few months I have sold off many of the minors and modern (post 1799) stuff, and finally did a little buying this week. Now to see if I can get the new linking technology to work.

1546 Stolberg (German States) Taler

And also a 1559 Lubeck Taler, these were typically very crudely made, but I like them.

I see that the Stolberg taler lacks a stag. Would this be a different Stolberg other than the one in Saxony? Perhaps the one in Rhineland?

It still has a stag harasha, upper left quadrant of the obverse shield, it's for Stolberg Konigstein Rochefort.

Ooo la la - some very nice taler eye candy. I like the crude early strikes. The Stolberg in particular is quite an exquisite piece. Good to see you back in the saddle. BTW - aren't you on the south end of TX? Things ok with you after the storm?

Thanks guys, we are in Houston but live on the far NW side of town. We were trapped in our neighborhood for 4-5 days but our house stayed high and dry. I also have a whole house standby generator so didn't have to worry about power.

Well the lots from Fridays sale arrived today, and pleasantly surprised. As you can see in the image of the Lubeck above it is struck on quite a crude planchet with quite a few stress cracks from striking, but for the issue it's very well struck and appears darker but with more contrast in hand than the images show. The Stolberg looks just like the image, a nice piece for the date.
