Some Parting Comments from ANA President Jeff Garrett -- Thoughts?

Overall solid commentary IMHO and worth reading for ANA members and non-members alike. During his tenure, Jeff thankfully avoided litigation and significant controversy. Moving the ANA forward seems to be like pushing one end of a wet noodle ... I think he certainly did his best and probably moved the noodle a little bit.
Thoughts anyone?

The ANA will survive, as long as there are dealers clamoring for a spot on the board there.

Jeff is pretty much spot on here (and it's been brought up in the forum too):
"Many think that the hobby is losing young people and that the future of numismatics is at great risk. I believe that this is an overblown concern. I say this because there are a lot of young people who love coin collecting, but you don’t see them in the traditional places as before. Many young people do not attend coin shows or coin club meetings. They interact with others via social platforms and other methods online. Many of the numismatic chat rooms are populated with young collectors. That is why the ANA needs to make a better effort to offer numismatic education online, as this is where future collectors hang out. Bottom line: The ANA needs a 'killer app'."
A killer app doesn't hurt, but it might not be needed as badly as partnering with the various forums and platforms out there. I was at a local coin show the past weekend and was showing the Instagram app to the front check in people. They were actually blown away by the pictures and postings from people all around the world into coins. They are out there, you just need to look at different places than you did a decade or two ago.
Of course there were a handful that poo-poo'd it and one found it a great time to trash millennials and their 'stupid devices'. Being a Luddite is one thing, but being an a-hole is another. It wasn't hard to figure out why that person's table sat mostly empty during the show - I passed right on by too and I'm nowhere near the demographic for the average Instagram user. Life's too short to listen to bitter, conspiracy-minded people.

To pontificate on Elmer's idea of an ANA "Killer App":
Is there a better online resource and app than PCGS's "CoinFacts"?
THAT is something the ANA really should/could have been involved with years ago.
I'm not really sure why PCGS took on that role since it doesn't seem to be a core aspect of their business, but I'm thankful for their effort, as we all should be.
Do they need help? More expert input? Expanded entries with more history? Maybe, maybe not....But the ANA has the expertise that could add that depth and breadth. Promote it as THE US Coin resource....then expand it to world coins, ancients, tokens, medals, whatever. Keep it up to date with all evolving research. Give the ANA a way to have DAILY impact on collectors....
Just a thought.
The best ANA President in a LONG time.
Glad to hear they have become focused on the future and pursuing ways to attract millennials. Hope for everyone's sake they are successful.
ANA has a huge void, that is being filled mostly by PCGS and some by NGC.
A killer App may not be the perfect solution, but a good starting point.
Was it ever published what the outcome of the case or cases they had to litigate and disclose what the payment was if any?
Or sign non disclosure agreement. Seems like members should now since their money was used if payment was used indirectly to pay for it?
I had read that article earlier. He is correct that he avoided litigation, which is a good thing (though its unfortunate that is an accomplishment for the ANA). I will be interested to see what Adkins does in his presidency.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
