Not vintage to the date, or it would have a denomination on it.
Possibly a "souvenir token" made anywhere from the 1880's to the 1960's.
There is a website on California gold, including souvenirs. Let me see if I can find it.

Just look on ebay completed sales. You'll see one there.

I bought one (or a very similar one with repunched E) of those at a show years ago for a few dollars. It sold for almost $60 on eBay.
There are 4 different 1853 dated Eureka charms (the 4 shares with same reverse) which could be period 3 charms. $60 seems to be the current ebay price.

Found my photos! It was 2003- a LOT longer ago than I remember. Tempus fugit. I do remember being surprised that it sold for 60.
It looks like the same die... it has the repunched 'E' and the dead-looking bear.
