Without seeing it in hand, I'm going with genuine. Rarely will a counterfeit have a clear date and assayer's initial. The weight will tell you how much silver it's lost to saltwater damage. 1768 Potosi, assayer V which fits

looks genuine - cannot be 100% sure until in my sticky fingures - looks like an interesting find and important part of local history
