1969 Yemen Arab Republic 50 Riyals

I picked this up last weekend in a dealer foreign silver bin at an antique show.
It was sealed in a PVC laden plastic package. I cut it out, dipped it and then soaked in acetone for an afternoon.
What a difference eh?
I can't seem to find much info on it other than it's scarce. I assume it's a commemorative for some anniversary.
Anybody help me out with a mintage number?
It's 50 grams and .925 silver. That's about all I know.

Wow, quite a transformation! No idea about the value or attribution, but definitely cool.

Just checking NGC price guide, it looks like there was an original proof and a restrike. The original proof is cataloged at $2600, the restrike is $70. Hope you found the original.

Looking through some eBay completed auctions and numisbids, it seems that the weight is the primary differentiator: 49.9g is a restrike, 49g is the original. Although i have not seen any auction that clearly stated if it was an original.

Wow, quite the difference. I have not personally weighed mine, I was going off of internet readings. I'll throw it on the scale when I get home.
