For those of us who were here for a while, Photobucket was one of the better options since PCGS did not host images. I have a ton of images posted here, hosted at Photobucket. That said, all of mine are still working in the old threads. There is NO WAY i would ever go back and reload all of them.
I feel you - I used my Photobucket account for many years to post on a few coin forums, as well as a Tablet gaming forum I moderate (with a few million users, so the traffic is crazy) so had the $39.99 unlimited bandwidth account for years. I wasn't paying the $399 a year fee for the account that lets you embed images into forums, so am in the slow process of moving over to imgur myself.
FYI- I would be careful posting any pictures directly here or any other site without having the "meta data" scrubbed from your pictures. I haven't really looked into whether this site scrubs the info or not.
IMGUR preforms that for you along with many other image hosting sites when you upload a picture. If you use an iPhone or similar device with GPS in it, the data within the picture could have EXIF or metadata that can show the location of where the picture was photographed (like your home or other private location).
You are posting a url, not an image. Try either dragging the image directly onto the post from explorer/finder (or whatever file manager you're using), or use the image dropdown on the far right of the menu on top of the edit box. Like this:
use the "Direct" on the right in photobucket (not URL, not IMG), then hit the picture button on your post (yellow arrow) and paste in the info from the "direct" into the "Image URL" box (red arrow)
I'm guessing this is a slow roll on photobucket's part.
they are test pissing people off in smaller numbers rather than the whole site at once.
if things go their way, then that rainbow morgan reverse I just posted from your account will eventually be replaced with a "pay me" pic.
as mentioned. if things go their way, then using the "photobucket method" above will slowly go broke via their "pay me" pic. I suppose photobucket may slowly go broke if they continue this.
this site will store pictures now. use the drag and drop method as BackroadJunkie suggested. Maybe things will go broke faster for photobucket.

the URL= was never the format on the old site anyway, it was IMG instead.
but it's not that anymore.
the library link is a library of images and not an image. that won't post as an image.
The picture of the lexus on my post is his image. I used the url buried in his post.
His problem is he's trying to enter the image as a url rather than an image, or he may be trying to drag the image directly from photobucket (i.e. a web browser rather than a file manager) to CU. That probably won't work.
but please note the update to use BackroadJunkie's drag and drop method.
If you have an internet service provider account that allows file hosting, then you can use the "Image URL" thing I posted, Just understand that if you ever change your provider, close the account for any reason, or they also want money, then the links used to post pics will just go broke, too.
I downloaded everything I have on the bucket a few months ago. It took a while because the site runs so slow. Gif files didn't work. It's telling me I have to download them one at a time. Lots of fun.
Whether I repopulate the threads with a work around at PB or by downloading directly to PCGS, it's the same amount of work!

Just switched over to imgur.com for images that I need to use a 3rd party posting site. Don't need to add any coins, as all the numismatic sites I use use drag and drop.

That would suck.
Lance.
PCGS current site:
1) if, and only if, posting using drag and drop: at least not at risk until pcgs does something otherwise
2) if and only if posted using a URL, then they are at risk
PCGS old site:
at risk. The IMG method required URLs to external sites. Photobucket pics are at risk because of the URLs to that site.

There is no reason I can see that people should delete their account. Anything linked to it would permanently disappear.
People who have old potentially useful or interesting postings linked to it on message boards etc, can stop using PB and just leave it still open on the outside chance Photobucket will do things different in the future.
Or if another company eventually ends up with PB's bankrupt remains, maybe they will let the links show again. It may never happen, but if the user deletes the account then that won't even be possible.

Now, if I could figure out how to get a picture back in my siggy I'd be happy. Somehow the html link at photobucket made it through, but now I can't seem to figure out how to add a small image back.
(and yes, the resolution of the background shot sucks...but somehow feels appropriate considering the source).
Photobucket was like that once. There's just no way to know if a site will pull the rug out from under you.
I know. I used to enjoy using Flickr to post/store a lot of my photos until they arbitrarily and suddenly messed it all up with drastic changes to their policies a few years ago. I still have my account there but only go over there maybe once or twice a year lately. Sad.

Why in the world would anybody use PB or any other 3rd party site now that we have the new software that takes the pics straight from our c drive??!!
Because I have hundreds of images that I will never post here. Another way is to upload your coins to the "my inventory" if you have a registry set. Also have lots of pics from stuff that was on eBay, Heritage etc. that's not mine.

They are already disappearing most likely. Mine didn't go away right away, but suddenly my siggie shots were gone and I confirmed on a few old threads. The siggie ones were using the html code, the thread ones with the IMG link.
I'm not closing my account because there is a LITTLE part of me that hopes that there is enough backlash the old links will be revived and it's only new links that will fall under the new policy...but I won't hold my breath.

Many people post to more sites than just this one...and unfortunately they don't have direct upload, or they have strict size limits. Need a hosting site for the other places. CollectiveCoin is fantastic but frowns on non-coin pictures (though I've snuck a couple of my dogs under one of my coins).
Also, it REALLY sucks because of all the threads that predate this software update. I can't imagine going back over my 4000+ posts to see where I put a picture and then replace it with a newly uploaded one. Not from my silly posts, but there are likely going to be a lot of very useful and informative threads that will now be defunct. I'm just super glad that my improved photos corresponded with my use of collectivecoin (because photobucket was already restricting photo quality by then).

the entire site with all the ads and pop-ups is a disaster, it slows/freezes my PC every time I go there. I may wait till the wee hours of the morning and see what happens or just sacrifice all the images I have hosted.

You can download and save ALL your P- Bucket images.
Click 'library' scroll down to 'download', on lower right, it will save it as a 'ZIP' file.
Do they only allow you to d/l one of your "libraries" per day? After 2-3 attempts, I finally was able to d/l my "Coins" PB library to my PC as a zip file but then tried several times to d/l my "bucket" library, but after verifying I wasn't a robot, etc. nothing happened when I clicked on "download"!
I never thought that growing old would happen so fast. - Jim
thisnamztaken, Sorry, I can't answer that.
I only had a few hundred pictures saved there, only because some sites I belong to did not have direct image linking at the time.
PB was great in the beginning and has turned into a disaster. I would have paid $20 a year not $399. I mean from free to $399? I bet they would make money at $20. bye bye
I had to download one album at a time. After one or two the site and my system started having problems. I shut everything down and did more albums at a later time. It was a slow process.

You do realize that is FOX news?

Are you referring to the misspelling? The organization is Fox News, but the website is foxnews.
I also often refer to the BEP as moneyfactory when I get information from them, since that's the source website.
I just assumed people would know the difference. Maybe not.
