It looks like becoming an eBay Valet Seller is very profitable.
People send you their items and you list and sell them on eBay.
You get to keep up to 75% of the sale price.

Item Selling Price : You keep
$500.00+ 20%
$250.00 - $499.99 30%
$100.00 - $249.99 40%
$50.00 - $99.99 50%
$25.00 - $49.99 60%
<$25.00 75%

There used to be a handful of Ebay seller shops in town. Don't think I have seen one for several years.

Problem is you need to be capable of list and dealing with something like 70,000 items? Got the fire power ? :)

Intriguing concept.... I do not have the time to deal with such an enterprise, but certainly could make a good business venture for some people. Details of packaging, shipping, insurance would have to be considered. Cheers, RickO

One of my local coin dealers was doing that back in 2008. Their commissions were ridiculous...25-30% as well. It would have been cheaper to just shop the coin around at the next coin show and get more money. With GC being a new sheriff in town...you can be pretty much be assured of getting approx 85-90% for anything you consign.

I don't know about you, but when I was dealer marking things up 25% over what I paid was not possible. The coin business used to work on narrow margins. Maybe that's not true today.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I'm not real familiar with the Valet Seller program, but the ebay emails I have received about this seem to indicate that it is geared toward selling fashion merchandise from specific brands only and not for coins. Perhaps it is far broader than this, but the emails I receive are targeted to that area.

Boy I never made anything close to those margins more like 3% and had to image and list and hold till the return period was up.

That sounds like pie in the sky. In reality it's really tough get retail on eBay. All one has to do there is get an account, start at 99c and the item sells. You may not be happy w the selling price but it's gone.

You don't have to get retail, just whatever the nice people on eBay will pay.

Say someone sends you a $1,000 item and you list and it sells for $100.
You keep $40 and send $60 to whoever sent you the item.
