Received this Jefferson in change a few days ago. Worn almost flat on OBV, yet rim still intact. Rev has much more detail.
Cell phone pic's, sorry in advance...
Took a few more pics.

    PMD "may" have happened.
There are many ways to remove metal from one side of a coin....
    [Edit to add:]
This might not explain the mostly intact obv. rim, though.

The grassy knoll was operating the machine at the mint that day?

Thanks, I'm getting a good laugh from this...
One thing for certain, it WILL NOT be sent in for grading.

Submerged tails down in nitric acid. As the acid eats away the metal, it does it uniformly, even leaving the rim.

I vote grease. Could be acid, but rim seems too sharp compared to the design.

The images are too washed out to be sure of much; however, I see NO EVIDENCE of any type of chemical alteration on either side.

OP, photo the coin w/o the glare. Try florescent light too. That's what U.S. Mint authenticators use to examine coins.
