    Don't know the variety but must have been struck with a rusty die.

    Nice coin and appears just taken out of a BU roll.
    I have 2 - 4 rolls and I'll have to take a look at them.
    Do remember there were some of the O/O variety

    New Orleans Mint workers struggled to maintain the quality of their working dies in the humid climate of Southern Louisiana. Apparently the superintendent at N.O did not see the minor blemishes caused by rusted dies to be an obstacle to stretching die usage in production. The problem even existed in Philadelphia and San Francisco throughout the course of production there. Your example is mild compared to some of the other known rusted die dates.
