Learning from Conversations

It is one of the reasons I am on here. I truly love talking about numismatics with other people. So, whenever I am a coin shows I make sure to spend time just talking to people. I correspond with other numismatists on email, and I am a member of these forums.
So: I want to know something you have learned related to numismatics by having a conversation with someone. Preferably, it was an in-person conversation but online is fine as well.

From a longtime coin dealer: There is a good reason why coin dealers are viewed by the public as little better than used car salesmen.
From an instructor at an ANA Summer Seminar: The TPGs don't really understand how to grade colonials.
From a fellow Forum member: You need to average a dozen different grade submissions to arrive at what the real grade of a coin is, especially if it looks in the 58-63 range.
From my numismatic mentor and grandmother: If you don't like a coin at first glance, your opinion is not likely to improve with time. Don't try to talk yourself into buying a coin, especially if you are bored and looking for an excuse to buy something.

CJ: 'No one!' [Ain't no angels in the coin biz]
Grandma was a wise woman!!! I would qualify that with: "unless you can get it for a steal and flip it for a nice profit."
Rocking my "shiny-object-syndrome"!!!
From my local shop and mentor(s): Seize the opportunity right now, because you'll never get to do it again (pertaining to coins and personal life).
From my own experience with lowball coins: Be very selective with what you deem a poor. I have very strict criteria for each different denomination. (I also have a 100% success rate,so...).
From my girlfriend: "Oooo! Look at this one! It has color!"
I've found out who some of the coin doctors were.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
Learned that absolutely no one can accurately define artificial toning.
Learned quite a bit about PL and DMPL on the boards this week!

Everything I've learned has been knowledge passed down by others.
I always have to remind myself: "Just because you're willing to pay more for it doesn't mean someone else will."

I learned this from another dealer many years ago who was beside me at a show: "I would rather eat this coin without salt and pepper as to sell it to you at that price!"
I learned about/and am still learning about coins that have been cleaned.
