Alternate shipping from grading services

I have tried to get the grading services to ship coins back to me in either flat mailers or in cardboard coin holders. PCGS insists on shipping in the blue plastic box which adds cost with usps via express. I got this response from shipping today: "This has been explained to him many times. It is for the protection of his coins. Anything more than 4 coins will be holders on top of holders and the holders will get cracked in transit with no protection." The cardboard boxes separating coins is the way the others do it, and NGC has a double decker shipping cardboard box where they can get 6-8 coins in a flat mailer.

I'm sure PCGS has experienced negative results they way you are proposing.

With express shipments the blue box can easily add $15 to the usps charges. That's one reason that NGC, Anacs and Icg don't ship with plastic boxes like PCGS. Overkill. I've never had a slab damaged in a proper sandwich or padded mailer. Professional mailers know how to address both economy concerns and efficiency.
Didn't PCGS just recently get rid of their blue boxes?
I thought they did, and I heard that they did get rid of them, but i received a submission back in 2017 in a standard blue plastic box...so I guess it wasn't the case.
Just because YOU "never had" any problems with a certain way of shipping doesn't mean that THEY haven't experienced issues and that helped guide their policies.
Also, it's THEIR business and THEY get to set the policy. You have asked, and been answered by them, previously, yet it appears, by your own information posted, that you continue to try to get them to bend to your way and will.
Yes, the shipping charge SUCKS, particularly for just a few coins, but it is part of the cost and it is what it is. If you hadn't asked, my thoughts about it, and my answer, would have been different. But, you did ask. More than once.
You won't like the answer I give, but I will state it anyway.....stop submitting to PCGS because of it, or keep submitting and realize that is THEIR POLICY and part of your cost of business with them.

Standard coin insurance policies require double boxing. Granted the high volume big boys can have policies for flat mailers, but it is asking for trouble.
So if your average submission is 10 coins, the net increase is $1.50 per coin. What does a reholder cost?
I was just shipping 6 coins in that order, I told them to ship it anyway but it didn't go out so I will probably either wait until one of the others are done, I have 4 other orders due in the next few weeks. FedEx ground is a good option, where you don't get hit with lots of extra cost like with the express shipments.
JMO, I would love getting the blue boxes
But I submit maybe 6 coins once every one to two years.
