Congrats, one thing for sure they both were bought under unique ways, one was dam the torpedoes and the other was show little interest. 2 dollars for 15million, that is hyper inflation. Lol

I honestly had no intention of buying the coin until in the midst of the discussion yesterday here on the chat room. I had expected it to either not sell (like the Childs coin) or fetch near $5M (like the Pogue 1794$1). It wasn't until it struck me what an incredible opportunity was presenting itself that I woke up and discussed making an offer with Laura.
A high grade Class I 1804 dollar has always been a dream coin of mine. I have now accomplished just about everything that I ever set out to do in numismatics.
Do you suppose that others were thinking similarly, let it go cheap and then go after it?
I don't think that was an intentional strategy by anyone - I think my thoughts prior to the auction were the consensus. I truly believe whatever was done to not let the Childs coin sell cost them $2M on this coin. But thanks!
I know they had multiple offers - we were in quickly with a clean offer. JA, Laura and I have done multimillion dollar deals quickly and effectively before so he knew it was no jerk around. Luckily, it was accepted
And don't forget to stamp an M on one of the clouds.
Nah, stamp a 'T' on one cloud and an 'N' on another and the deed is done. A decade from now, people might wonder who the mysterious 'TDN' ( or another permutation of the letters) was.
Congrats! I don't know which is more impressive, the Zags winning the National Championship - not, or a former Spokane guy buying a Class I 1804 Dollar.

congrats..I am shocked that a forum member could afford such a purchase.... I am gonna start being nicer to people here
I have noticed over the decade or so I've been on this forum, (the only coin forum I'm on, btw) that there are quite a few members with the desire, knowledge and wherewithal to own some amazing coins.
TDN happens to be one of the upper echelon of those folks. And he seems to be a truly nice guy. Never met him, don't imagine I ever will but I like his style.
I've got caviar taste but a tuna fish budget so I always enjoy it when amazing coins land in amazing collections. Bruce is certainly one of the true numismatic titans of this generation and I can't think of a better place for such an important piece to land.

What a coin .. but better not to reveal owner, details
Why? I for one am happy that TDN decides to share this info and his acquisition to the coin collecting community. It feeds the spirit of the hobby and is healthy in my opinion.

Out of the millions of folks who could afford that coin, be glad that not all of them want it.

I couldn't agree more with this statement. Honestly, my exact thought when I saw the topic was that I was grateful some foreign entity, anonymous party, or other interest hadn't purchased the 1804 $1 only to squirrel it away for decades to come. I haven't met Bruce, but my instinct is that he's a true numismatist and steward of the coins he owns and his purchase of these amazing historical pieces assures their safety and security for the enjoyment of future generations of collectors that will follow. A win-win for the hobby imo.

Congrats to TDN. It looks like a great buy; JA and Lipton likely felt the same.
