Question about the 24 volume John Ford catalogs

dtkk49adtkk49a Posts: 2,490 ✭✭✭

Hi, I am putting together a set of these catalogs and I just received volume 22 and I notice that, unlike all the other volumes, there is no title or volume number written on the spine. Do I have a bum copy or are they all like this?

Vols. 22-24 were produced after a modest hiatus from the earlier sales. These volumes strike me as being a bit more cheaply made than the earlier ones (and I have the hardcover versions).

If you are collecting JJ Ford-related auction catalogs, you need to know that the Stack's (Stack's/Bowers) sales of Ford's collection weren't the whole story. His library was enormous, and chunks of it were auctioned off by GF Kolbe in 2004-2005 (2 sales). Other auctions/fixed price lists that featured items from Ford's numismatic collection include:
Rosa Americana 2005, RM Smythe 1997, Jack Collins 1991, Bowers and Merena (1991--Frontenac Sale), and Glendining & Co. 1989.

PM me (or post) the ones you are missing, some of us may have dups. Maybe post it on BST so no one thinks it's spam.

I have most of them, but I don't have 22.

I don't think it does. I just moved my office and can't fine that last box. Several people on here have complete sets, it may just take them a while to respond.

I can confirm your copy is as-produced.

Thanks! I wonder why they left it off the spine?

That's in line with the relatively low production quality of vols. 22-24. I cannot get my hardbound editions to lie flat when opened, at least not without damaging the spines.
