Etsy on BST

TetromibiTetromibi Posts: 947 ✭✭✭✭✭

What's with the new influx of people (oddly, mostly with low post counts) selling stuff on the BST with links to sell through etsy?

How secure is this? Anybody successfully completed transactions this way? Anything to buyer beware?

I figure there are more than plenty established places for me to buy coins so I steer clear.
Not even going to investigate it.
Then again I'm usually half a step behind the times.

I once sold a ww2 bomber jacket for $9,000 on etsy. I put it up in the evening in 2013 and by morning I woke up to a few messages from a woman frantically trying to buy it and couldn't check out. Told her to go directly through PayPal and boom. She was buying it as a gift for her military collector / pilot husband. One of my only transactions on etsy aside maybe 2 or 3 other smaller ones and no coins. There just isn't the eyes on it eBay has, or at least back in 2013 there wasn't. Maybe it's getting more popular.

Just like the horse and buggy gave way to the automobile, it seems the newer generation that we always say aren't involved in the hobby are actually active on more modern platforms buying and selling. Just a guess.

It looks like fees are a bit cheaper on etsy. So this could actually make sense for the people that are selling here. Ebay just gets you so much more visability. I know etsy has been around for a while. This is just the first time I've seen people using it for coins.

0.20 listing fee (item lists 4 months or until sold)
3.5% transaction fee (similar to FVF I guess)
3% + $0.25 payment processing (analagous to paypal fee)

Does anybody have experience with it? How easy is it to get the money after the item sells? They say they have seller protection and fraud detection, which is completely opposite of ebay's buyer protection.

The people listing with 3 posts on here scares me more than the new selling platform. Just curious if they are scamming or if they have figured out a compelling reason to list there.

Any ebay alternative would have to have the comparables at lower rates. It hasn't happened yet probably due to capital requirements.

Everything on etsy is supposed to be hand made. No clue how they're getting away with selling coins. It used to be 14 days before they would release the money to the seller. Etsy is growing but not close to being close to competing with ebay. Now that I think about it the one member was saying they wouldn't ship for 14 days. Uh oh.

    BST references several

I've purchased a bunch of things on Etsy and I like Etsy. But not coins.

Just wondering..if you were the buyer who made that under spot purchase on BST.

Nope. I just brought it up after I saw some quarters for sale on BST through etsy. Though the Silver on etsy is what originally piqued my interest about the whole thing.
