I'm not familiar with any significant change to the 1916 dime.....But you could be right. (I'll let the Mercury Experts chime in). I do seem to recall something....
But the classic examples of mid-year changes are the 1913 Buffalo, and 1917 Standing Liberty Quarters. They both got significant, and very easily identifiable changes.
Found this
1921 Morgan silver dollar, 1921 Peace silver dollar
Rainbow Stars
I think this would be a good side collection that shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.
I see what you're saying....."Not change to a design".....but, "Complete change OF design"....
That might take a little more thinking....
Yes Sir
Oh, that was going to be my answer.
How about Statehood quarters?
They changed 5 times per year.

1834 Quarter Eagles and Half Eagles
1916 Barber Quarter to SLQ.......
But now it occurs to me that you mean changes to a single design. Nevermind.
I guess virtually every variety falls into this category.
Also in 1982 the Lincoln went to the Zincoln. Many of each type exist.
Probably the best way to find most, if not all, would be to go to any price guide, and run through the years. By definition, they will list all years for each design. Any overlap will give you another example.

Chain cent to Wreath cent is major
Wreath cent to Liberty Cap is major.
1795 started out with thick planchets, Lettered edges
Due to rising copper costs and shortages, switched to thin planchets, Plain edges.

One of the joys of owning a Redbook is being able to find the answers to questions like this.
<< What coins changed design mid year? >>
None of mine did. They all looked the same on July 1 as they did on June 30.

I have a 1913 Buffalo nickel and I'm patiently waiting for it to change into a Liberty Head.

1795 Flowing Hair Dollars changed in the second half of 1795 (as best we know) to the new Draped Bust, Small Eagle Type. This type was struck 1795-1798.
