Modern coin albums and toning

Which modern coin albums results in the most attractive toning in the long term? I had a few blue Whitman albums (slide) with BU silver coins in them for around 25 years and most of the coins developed attractive rainbow toning progressing inward from the rims, while others developed attractive mottled blue toning. I have now had BU silver coins in Danso albums for 10 years or so and they are mostly developing a golden colored toning, which is not as attractive IMO. I also have had a couple of the US mint gray and blue albums, by Whitman I think, for the past 10 years and those coins don't seem to be toning at all.

What is everyone else's experience?

The first album I worked on was a green Littleton ASE album that I picked up for the price of the half dozen coins in it. Those coins had very attractive blue to green/turquoise target toning.

Unfortunately, I sold the album when silver shot up, not knowing a darn thing about toning back then. The look produced by that style album is something I have not seen since.

I LOVE toned coins. But in the past 50+ years my coins have hardly toned at all. They have always been in an environment where the relative humidity of the air has been very low. I believe that many agents that cause coins to tone are sulfur derivatives that are transmitted through moisture in the air. If the air has little moisture content, then these agents will not cause toning.

Store your coins in Panama near the beach and you might get very nice results........in about 50 years.

Dansco Albums tone clads nicely but do little for silver other than golden hues. Whitman Albums will impart rainbows or mottled gold/blue toning.

I havent seen enough coins in Littleton Albums or the blue/gray US Mint Albums to really be able to give an opinion.

Capital plastic holders can do a nice job toning coins as well - if there's space between the three layers to allow air flow.

Always look at the 3rd party aftermarket cardboard holders in dealer junk boxes. I picked up a 77-D JFK which graded MS67 and is nicely rainbowed for about $8... Im pretty sure thats tied for top-pop coin. I dont think there's a MS68 out there.

    I agree with TonerGuy
Dansco's good for clads and nickels
Capital Plastics with cardboard inserts better than all plastic

the best I have seen on silver is wayte Raymond, meghrig, and bigelow boards
they are cardboard with plastic slides on both sides
old PCI slabs with green label do interesting job on silver as well

I kept some mercs in the Whitman blue folders for 30 years. They get spotted rainbowish around the inside rim. I had a nice one, just an AU common date, and the toning from 9:00-2 made this nice streak across the rim and ended at the date. Uncirculated 64 halves and dimes just got random toning of all kinds nothing pattern specific. The only guarantee is them going dark.

Though of course results will vary, here are some Dansco album coins I have owned for many years in my 7070, acquired in the 1980's. I have other dimes, half dimes, and seated halves, just no photos of them:
