Found the right card to represent this legendary HOFer. Among the many cool tidbits about Keeler:

    • Said, "Hit'em where they ain't."
    • Hit over .300 16 times in 19 seasons, eclipsed .400 once.
    • Over .400 OBP for seven straight seasons.
    • Was 5' 4", 140 pounds.
    • Was the reason for the rule that a foul bunt with two strikes is a strikeout.
    • In the 1899 has 570 AB and struck out only twice; AB-per-K of of 235 remains the record.
    • Made the Baltimore Chop famous.
    • Tied with Rose for NL 44-game hit streak (45 over two seasons)

Love this George Sisler card. From his bio page on Wikipedia:

Sisler's 1922 season — during which he batted .420, hit safely in a then-record 41 consecutive games, led the American League in hits (246), stolen bases (51), triples (18), and was probably the best fielding first baseman in the game — is considered by many historians to be among the best individual all-around single-season performances in baseball history.

DM23HOF cool cards. I Love when guys provide stories with their cards. For a non baseball guy it's always cool to learn about these 100+ year old athletes.

Thank you guys very much. The search for such cards is as fun as surfing old stats on baseball reference LOL!

Finally pulled the trigger on this one. Looks like solid 8 with real nice centering. Will get reholdered when it comes in the mail

Love those old wrestling cards! I don't know anything about them, but they all present really nice, and finding all that old cardboard grade well is awesome. Nice finds WrestlingCardKing!

Thanks, the print line does not bother me. It does have a corner ding on the top on the Erving side. Think it is accurately graded with this nice centering.

Cool thread! Lotsos... where are you located? There's quite a few places around here that do Hockey breaks where you could maybe keep an eye out for the other card you are looking for!

I'm in the Phoenix area. Not a lot of in your face hockey down here but since 75% + (not a scientific study) of the population is from somewhere else originally you run into a lot of hockey fans. Especially when western Canada invades for the winter. B) . The only modern I collect is the Sabres and Eichel specifically. So if you ever run across something cool PM me I'd love to see it.

I mean, with a name like Big Poison and stats like a .380 avg, three batting titles, and 3000+ hits, hadda grab a card of his. Not to mention that when you try to sober him up or give him glasses to improve his eyesight, his production dips, LOL.

"Famous for his ability to hit while hung over, when Waner gave up drinking in 1938 at management's request, he hit only .280—the first of only two times that he failed to hit .300 as a Pirate. As Casey Stengel said in complimenting his base-running skills, "He had to be a very graceful player, because he could slide without breaking the bottle on his hip.""

Now this I respect ! Graceful skater nahhhhhh.... not me. More bull in a china shop than anything. I was often called a graceful skier though. It too was to protect a bottle in my hip pocket.

Two down! Nice pick-ups Spin. Look forward to seeing the other two when they get in. How are you coming along towards completion of the set?

Thanks. I have 17 more cards (out of the 96 total) to go. Luckily, all the expensive cards are out of the way. Some of the cards I need, I'm just waiting for them to show up in PSA 7 or better. From there, it will be slowly upgrading over time. Once Ringside is done, I need to figure out what is next. How are you finding the Leaf set to put together?

I see your new card has a 'pedigree flip' (I think this is what they call it?), I do know of some others on PSA flips. I have been thinking, would it make any sense to add some type of pedigree stamp to the cards we post online? To protect the image from being copied and added to a registry or sold in some auction on eBay? I had been thinking about this, not that people are stealing my card scans lol. I came up with this. What do you guys think? Lame, or a good idea?

If I'm being honest, somewhat daunting due to the very high cost of the Honus Wagner-esque Graziano card. I'm a completionist so I'll want to have a copy but it seems like it will be prohibitively expensive in any grade. I almost feel like I should focus on that card first because I'll need considerable savings to afford it. I'm still deciding if I'll collect the set in raw or in graded form. Aside from that I have other sets I'm working on so I will be getting cards here and there.

One of the other sets I'm doing is the All-Time Top 100 Boxers (1886-2001) key card set which has a number of hefty cards in it too, including the Graziano if I'm not mistaken. I like the idea of this set because it will give me a chance to learn/read about a number of boxers all across the sport's history as I collect them. I have a couple of exciting modern pick-ups for that set which I hope to get soon so I can show them off.

I will never be able to buy Graziano, when I started this set I though I would get the reprint of the card. Maybe pay one of the good custom card makers to make it look like a vintage PSA 5 to match my set.

Largent, I think that watermark looks cool. Above my skill level to craft one, though LOL.

Three consecutive 30-win seasons and one with an ERA+ of 225, cannot sleep on Grover. Plus my first Collins-McCarthy card. Too rare for me to be picky on centering.

Going to sneak in a little non-sport action...

1994 Marvel Masterpieces No. 11 Silver Surfer (PSA 10)

I really loved these cards when I was younger but they were expensive so I didn't buy many packs. I've got many of the 1992 set in CS1 ready to sub. I'm primarily focused on the Marvel Masterpieces issues and Wizard Guide promo cards in this part of my collection.

SpinFade...Love the Marciano ringside card. Very cool.
DM23HOF, Never seen one of Collins-Mccarthy cards before. Grover Cleveland was crazy good back in his day.

I have been slowly working on a mid-grade Unitas run. Was very pleased to pick this card up raw and just got it back from PSA and was hoping for at least a PSA 5 and it received a PSA 6 so I was very happy with the results. This is an incredibly tough card to find with good centering.

Got these back from Joe Berton today. Berton is just a retired school teacher these days, but for one incredible 1985 Spring Training, he was better known as Sidd Finch. Finch came to camp and was able to throw a 168 mph fastball, and was featured in Sports Illustrated back in 1985. Google it if you are unfamiliar. An incredible story ;)

  • Two more for my Ringside set just arrived. The Lesnevitch is a big pickup for me. As the #1 card in the set, it is a nightmare to find in decent shape. No 9s or 10s and only nine 8s. Happy to get this at a relatively decent price.

Interesting tidbit about Vejar: In 1961, at the age of 29, he retired from boxing to spend time with his son, Jimmy, who died the following year at age 3 from complications resulting from cerebral palsy.

Love the Sidd Finch - as a 13 year-old Cubs fan it was very upsetting that our NL East Rivals at the time (Cubs and Mets had a great pennant race in 1984) found another pitcher out of thin air!! What a well done April Fools joke.

Traded for these yesterday at a shop that sells vintage toys, video games and stuff like that. I don't have but maybe a few bucks a piece in them with how I traded. So I am pretty happy to have them.

Just filled a glaring gap in the collection with this one...and maybe it'll reinforce the concept of finishing down on a throw for my son with his pitching.

Saw the centering on this and had to pull the trigger. Was centered better than 4s so happy to pay 4 price. Will love seeing it beside the Joe D from the same set.

Man, baseball reference, ebay, and an ebay bonus coupon are a lethal combination.
