    Yes, something like this.

Dan also had a hand at the Westchester County Coin Club 75th Anniversary Medal

Daniel did a truly superb job!

One side of the medal bears the club logo, which we have used on medals since 1938, while the other depicts the proposed and then rejected design for the 1938 New Rochelle Half Dollar.

Because the WCCC played a crucial role in the creation of the 1938 New Rochelle Half Dollar, it seemed fitting to follow that theme.

Well, I said it didn't bother me much on another post, I really don't want to dip it, and I really don't want it to progress any further. I bought it at Long Beach in 2012 and it was not in a Dan Carr flip.......any suggestions ?

I love it! It adds depth to the piece. If I had a blast white one I would trade you. I suggest just getting it slabbed as-is to arrest further progression.

Must be the ink in the label?

Could be. The ones I have in the original flips with the label have started to tone, while the ones I have in Air-Tites have not.

Great info on this club medal and the New Rochelle Half Dollar @ScarsdaleCoin !

He does them for @illini420's Glendale Coin Club too. Really want a 50g gold of the 2016 design but they are rare and not in the budget currently...

if it progressed further, i think it would get even cooler, but i understand why some might not want it to either. i would suggest changing where you are storing it. there must be some sort of temperature/humidity change going on that is the culprit or perhaps the enclosure or surrounding items. i have seen coins tone next to other already toned coins...even though they are not touching (talking about raw coins in flips).

I've sent most of mine to ANACS but now that they are using UPS Smart Post, I'll self slab.

Thanks, I agree with y'all that I like it right where its at, I have it with quite a few other DC's and this is the only one that has toned any over the last 4 years..........I am NOT gonna dip it

    Thanks again

I almost thought ATS was slabbing these now!

<< If I do another Morgan Dollar over-strike it would probably be a "1920". >>

Then I would go with a date such as "1877-CC"
19XX dates are not for the Morgan purists.........1877 would sell much better than 1920 >>

1886, 1887 and 1888 CC all would be neat. >>

Since 1886, 1887, & 1888 Morgan dollar dates exist (albeit without CC mint marks), they wouldn't qualify for my criteria as a "fantasy-date" (even with a "CC" mint mark).
1877-CC would be a possibility. It would have to be an 8-tail-feather, of course

Suggestions? I have some but first wish to lament missing out on the cameo proof barber halves. They look fab!! Okay, I suggest a 1792 Chain cent. Probably a bit of a bear to come up with host coins but oh how nice it would be to have a faithful repro in XF/AU brown. Or an 1805 DBHE $1 or a 1799 DBSE $1 would be fab. Again the host coins would be an issue. Though some holders of low grade problem coins, (wink, wink) would likely offer them up for the cause!

  • jdillanejdillane Posts: 2,365 ✭✭✭

And since I dipped my toe in the pond of suggestions that pose heightened challenge at least in terms of obtaining host coins, I'd think a 1792 or 1794 $10 eagle would be worth considering even if it meant using a modern $10 host coin that of course is marginally smaller.

  • Really like Dan's issues. How long do we have to wait for PCGS and NGC to come around and slab these? It's not like they wouldn't make money doing it. These are legitimate "medals" that have a large following and a healthy secondary market. Hey Third Party graders...get with the program!!!

...have you ever looked at his mintage numbers for each issue?...there really isn't that many to slab...I bet PCGS could slab every DC Issue ever minted in 1 business day...I Love DC stuff but just sayin' ;)

You could start your own TPG for them. Private slabs should be good enough for private medals.

    @Zoins

Wow I missed this only from last January 23, 2017
I find it just takes to long for them to get across the country.
To add to original post does having ANACS grade/slab them add any thing to the medal?

@CaptHenway I self slab them, very cost effective. Sometimes I have to make my own inserts.
