Never consign to a non floor auction, in this case, Stack's really threw in a mixed bag of cleaned/mounted/whizzed coins along with a few decent ones. This special medal stood out.
1888 Empress Maria Theresia. Vienna. A. Scharff (after M. Donner). 41.5mm, 28.08gr. Wurzbach-6050. Hauser 2417. 250 pieces commissioned by the Austrian Numismatic Society for its members for the inauguration of the Monument of Maria Theresa in 1888. The dies for this piece were dedicated to the society by the medalist Anton Scharff, who himself was a member. Previous work by the Viennese medalist, M. Donner, served as a model for the presentation as the inscription under the bust shows. Obv. Draped and diademed bust of Maria Theresa right. Medallist's signature ("A. Scharff after M. Donner") below. Rev: Star above inscription in three lines and palm-sprays in saltire. All within baroque foliage. Date (8th May 1888) in roman letters below. PCGS SP-65.

Beautiful medal.
I assume you bought it in the HA non-floor sale. While it may have gone relatively unnoticed, I was amazed at the stupid prices things brought.
Edited: Oh, I just re-read your post and it came from the SB non-floor sale. I think things went mostly cheap in that sale, from what I had in my watchlist. Maybe everyone was busy in the HA non-floor?
Stacks non floor even worse this time around. 50% details/cleaned material and a few of these...

Wow!!
That's a really impressive medal. I'm also continuously amazed by the quality of the photos taken by PCGS. Does the medal really look this good in-hand?
Does the typical consignor have any say over that? I imagine the Stack's rep just said you'll be in the NYINC without specifying between live and internet venues.
I believe they base it on a straight dollar amount minimum.
