Don't forget to that the batteries out of your detector if you aren't using it for awhile.

    i do soon after the ground freezes. it also gets a decent cleaning and all.

    Bought a new DFX 6 years ago. Haven't used it since, think the batteries

    Yep.... the batteries will not take a charge after so long a time.... happened to me as well. Cheers, RickO

    Good Idea.
    I have a very well made LED flashlight, was misplaced for a year or so.
    The Alkaline batteries started leaking.
    I was able to clean all the contact points, however, I was surprised they did that.
    Thought Alkalines were impervious to leaking.

    I managed to get out yesterday for the first time in several weeks. Only lasted about an hour, it was just too cold otherwise. At least the ground was still soft. Went to a park, got a few quarters for my troubles.

    It's been in the 40's and 50's here for the last week and everything thawed out so I put the batteries back in the detector. Found over $30 in the last 4 days including $10.48 today for the last hunt of the year.
