Taking quality coin pictures with an iPhone or iPad?

Hi there, trying to improve my picture taking ability. Does anyone have any tips or techniques on getting good coin pictures with an iPhone or iPad? Any advise is much appreciated. Thank you.

You'll want to purchase an aftermarket macro lens to add on since the iPhone and iPad don't have macro capabilities with their fixed lenses. And with those lenses you're going to see distortion around the edges so make sure that you get the coin well centered and crop the distorted edges of the images away.

You'll also want a tripod to hold the iPhone or iPad still, there are several available that will do the job. A USB Gooseneck charging cable might work well since that will not block your lighting.

Once you have those, you'll want good lighting just like any other setup. 2 or 3 gooseneck lamps that you can place around the coin would be best.

Also you need either to use a timer or a remote to shoot, you don't want to press the button on the screen as that will introduce shake. There are many bluetooth remotes for iPhone you can buy inexpensively, or use the timer. There are also apps, I assume, that will let you remote shoot the iPhone using the iPad.

Finally, if you have an iPhone 7, Apple has allowed third party apps (but not the built in camera app for some reason) shoot and collect RAW camera sensor data, shooting in RAW mode will allow more sophisticated post editing. Many camera apps allow for white balance adjustments which you will need to compensate for your lighting, but if you're shooting in RAW you can fine tune your white balance after the fact as well.

Depending on lighting, I can usually get a decent pic with my iPhone 6S
(good pic for my standards) :)
