---editing, because I have more aviation medals/plaquettes (etc--I usually don't try and get technical with the nomenclature, thogh I should), so why not start a thread for them...add yours too!---
Liking art deco generally means I run across a reasonable number of transportation related medals (aviation, ships, trains, cars, horses...). This medal isn't exactly art deco, and as I don't collect aviation medals per se, there was no REASON to buy it.
Somehow it ended up in my mailbox anyway. Go figure.

Very attractive and Interesting medal/plaque. The airplane suggests 1930s or later the obverse looks like it may have been made for an air meet; any info about demos: date, subject, etc? The sig seems to be that of Maurice Charpentier-Mio, a French sculpter who died in 1976 but I couldn't find a biography after a quick search.
In any case congrats and thanks for the look!
All I know is what the eBay listing said, which wasn't much. I kept getting drawn in by the sense of motion from the propellers, the balloon and zeppelin in the background, and the map reverse.
It's why I love the exonumia so much...no grading and you can branch out to a zillion different things. Even the husband liked this one
. Plus some rainy day will make this a good research project.
Cool! I think it's interesting that it depicts all major forms of air travel of the early 20th century (dirigible, airship, and airplane) all in the same view.
A little head start for your future research: Michel Charpentier was born 1927 and won the Rome first grand prize in medal engraving in 1951.
Here is another one. Just the obverse as the reverse is plain and I forgot to take a picture of it.
