They are Austrian Maria Theresa talers. Struck by the Austrian (and several other) Mints from 1780 until now, using the date 1780. They are one of the most popular trade coins ever produced.

I acquired this vintage leather bag recently at a garage sale. The bag is similar to a Swiss Army military mail bag I found online. Are these Swiss coins? Thanks for any help you can offer!

That's a wonderful old bag. The Maria Theresa thalers were used all over the place as trade coins. I suspect the clue to the bag's origin might be in identifying that crest in the middle. It looks like silver, too?
