Looks like something they would grade 62. Has the appearance of slight rub in fields and on Liberty's leg and breasts. Too much eye appeal to just give it the 58 it probably technically deserves.

Gorgeous coin.
Those date numerals sure look wonky. What's going on with that 8? And the 7 is noticeably crooked. I have not noticed this before on these. Are there many varieties with 1837 NS half dimes? I knew about the large date/small date thing, but that's about all.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

It's a repunched date.
You have the two main varieties of 1837 No Stars Half Dimes... the Large Date and the Small Date.
The 1837 Large Date No Stars Seated Half Dime often shows the multiple underlying 8s and the bottom of an extra 7 too. All of the digits show some repunching and I have seen them cataloged as 1837/1837 at times. I don't think all Large Date examples exhibit this repunching, but it is found on many of them. Of course some examples show it more strongly than others. This same repunched date is also found on the rare 1837 Proof No Stars Seated Half Dimes.

One thing I noticed about using this "Question" feature to do a guess the grade post (or any other post) is that upon every response to this thread, I get a notification of a response in my notifications here.
On each of your posts in the thread, at the very bottom it asks me "Did this answer the questions?" and there are YES and NO buttons. I have not clicked either on anyone's post where a guess has been made. I will do so later on when I reveal the actual grade. I have clicked no on a few posts where no guess was made, including my own posts.
Also, and most annoying, is that the forum gives me a small pop up message at the bottom of the screen on just about every page of the forum reminding me that I have answers to my question here... I'm guessing that message will keep appearing until I mark at least one of the posts here as the correct answer.
Looking like doing a poll or just a regular post might be the way to go on a guess the grade type post on this new forum. We'll see what folks like best.

The right obv and reverse fields have some light friction, which sort of eliminates 65 and higher. 63 is a fair grade....could go 64 on a good day if the eye appeal is strong and the friction very minor.
