I found this one on the 'Bay, which is either loved or hated by many. But eBay has always been very relevant for me, even today, although it is accused of being a dumping ground. I don't believe this.



When I first saw this coin; I was in awe of the strike, as many 1938 P coins are 'mushy'. This one looks sharp and relatively clean to my eyes.



I see distinct luster bands but the coin appeared 'milky' to me, which can be a sign of altered surfaces. But then I looked at all of the other coins from this seller and they all had that same look, so I feel it is a by-product of his photography style.



The bands tell me it is quite lustrous, so I took a chance....price was fair, too.

    this coin is a good example of full strike , tough to find in this series.

    The eagles breast feathers and Liberty's head the hand and cape detail its all there.

    It has the detail many proofs have of the era.

    I bet it pops in hand sure looks like a blazer from the rather poor sellers images.

    Looks like it is already in a TPG holder. Looks 64/65 to me. Luster looks fine. Nice looking coin with an impeccable strike.

    It is a dumping ground, but it's not a dumping ground for everybody. You just need the eye to see through the "stuff", looks like you do.

    Pictures are a bit fuzzy, so I cannot judge the right field or Liberty's hip.

    The strike is great.

    Yep, that was part of the gamble.



    I am guessing that the center (left leg) skirt lines are full and there's not any abrasions on the hip.



    As for the right field, it looks to me that there are some light, wispy abrasions but nothing deep or significant, which would be consistent for the grade.



    Sun looks real smooth, too.

    Almost all coins have tiny imperfections. I appreciate you pointing it out but that is almost invisible and not distracting in the least.

    That is a good strike for that issue, reverse breast feathers look excellent. When you get it in hand (if you haven't already), check for the carbon spot Raybo points out. Sometimes these are distracting, sometimes they aren't -- all depends on what it looks like in-hand. Those abrasions in the right obverse field look minimal to me. With a PC 66, my guess is you will be pleased. Always like that you share your finds. And you can find good coins and bad coins in many places, including EBay.

    Looks nice to me.

    I've thought for many years (even before PCGS/NGC/ANACS) that this date was very underrated.

    When I was a serious Walker collector, I searched long and hard for a nice one.

    Seems like the luster on the majority of these was usually "thin" and kind of washed-out looking.

    If that wasn't the case, on a few the luster was thick, creamy, frosty and "dreamy", but the coin was marked up to hell.

    Your coin looks to have the rare combo of thick nice luster and few contact marks.

    WELL DONE, I say!
