Do you still have any of the coins from this set Rob?
Just the Terner half-sovereign in the OP, which resides in my Box of 20.
The rest of them became the Dahlonega half-eagle, also in my Box of 20, until Victoria needs a car down payment or college textbooks or wedding stuff one day.
Did you think about how you're going to meet this date? Classic "polishing shotgun" scene or something a bit more creative?
Oh, I'll try to be more creative, but I'll have to go out and buy a shotgun to polish if the lad is even half as big a twit as I was until the age of thirty or so.
Man, I've got a 5 year old boy myself and I swear sometimes when I come home from work, I still expect him to be drinking warm milk out of a bottle or napping in his crib.
As for greeting the date - you could do what my father did when my sisters were being taken to dances or dates and dress up like a Hell's Angel.
He didn't exactly need a shotgun for intimidation considering he was 6' 6", just about 300 lbs and had a beard down to his stomach. Then again, you might not have that advantage!

I've got the 300 lbs. Shaved off the beard (which was never that long), kept the 'stache. 6'6"? Nope. More like 5'10".
If the kid misbehaves, I'll just threaten to sit on him. I've seen pictures. Unless he's had martial arts classes, I can take 'im. Not a very big lad.
Anyway, they're both freshmen, and Victoria can take care of herself, and all looks pretty innocent... for now.
I guess I'm just having the natural pangs that every father probably has when his little girl turns into a young woman and starts to leave his orbit and find her own social circle.
Sorry no Vickie to post, but I can feel your heart my friend.
Ever since she was a little girl I've been taking my daughter, an only child, to the Go Kart track. She has loved this since day 1 - her riding shotgun, me driving. Well, a few months ago I noticed that she was tall enough to drive the cart by herself. I bought us two tickets and when we got to the front of the line and Emma found out she'd be driving herself she had an absolute hissy fit. "No way, Dad. I'm not driving!!!" After awhile I finally convinced her to try. Around and around we went. When we pulled into the shed she was smiling. She came over to me and said, "Dad, I have something to say - I'm never riding with you again." Just about broke my heart.
Rob, You Probably have to change your avatar in grandpamarcovan in a year or two
A YEAR or TWO?
Maybe if my 25-year-old son in Chicago settles down, but as far as Victoria goes, let's wait a DECADE.
She's still 2 weeks shy of her 15th birthday, though she looks and acts much older.
Brg5658- I love those two you posted, particularly the second one. I browse Atlas a lot. (Oh, and my phone extension at work is 5658. Or is it 5856?)
Exbrit- Todd/BluCC imaged that Terner half-sov and most of the rest of that old 1901 type set. Smeagle1795 did the Photoshop template. I did the slab images on a flatbed scanner, which is why they look different.
You better do something, buy a gun, find out where this boy lives and burn his house, send Victoria to a convent or maybe take the family off for a year in the Arctic, but for god's sake man, DO SOMETHING!!!

Not a coin Rob, but in honor of your lovely, talented daughter here's a pic I took in the library of (former Princess) Victoria, the daughter of Queen Victoria.

@brg5648- those are stunning, particularly the last two. That 1892 halfcrown is a real eyepopper! Wow.
@Swampboy- hey, thanks. I think I could happily live in that library. Just set me up a bed in the corner with a good reading lamp, and I'd be right at home.
I shouldn't have opened this thread. I remember photos of your daughter 10+ years ago Rob. Now a father of a girl too, I try not to think of her teen and post teen years, unknown territory for me. Here's a Victorian florin that I never parted with ever since I bought it, some 12 years ago.
It's not (only) about the toning and the eye appeal, there's also a sentimental attachment that comes from the way it came to my posession. It's in a PCGS MS64 holder, I don't know WHAT they saw and didn't elevate it to gem status, but I couldn't care less.
And below, a raw purchase from last year's Berlin show that later graded PCGS MS65.

Might be overdoing it a bit, but since it's been slow on the Darkside and the forums in general lately, why not.
Post as many of yours as you like. I never get tired of lookin' at Vickies.

Great Britain Gothic Florin 1873
It has some lettering and initials scratched on both sides.
The obverse initials look like "LL", "AND", and "CH", and the reverse has "LL", and "CH".
I wonder how their affair went.

Here are a couple lesser seen Victoria busts, both acquired from Atlas in the past year or so.

It's both joyous and painful to see them grow up.

Tho' I've only been posting here a short time, I heartily agree.
Oh- speaking of Victoria, here's my recent 23-second home movie featuring her, if you missed it in my "Open Forum" thread.
