That is what a friend of mine who called said. He said he is going to have to raise the prices on his bust halves now. image

I've been surprised at how strong the prices have been. Most of the coins have very original, but dark surfaces...which I happen to like, but a lot of times is not an appealing look for the masses. It's not just the bust halves either, a 1838 Bust Quarter from the collection in an AU-55 holder with a gold sticker went for 3k.

The strong prices for BHs aren't just the ones on Heritage. I placed (what I thought were strong) bids on so many coins in both the Stack's and in Sheridan Downey's auctions that I was scared I might end up owning way too many to pay for (comfortably). Actually, I went 0'fer all auctions.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

No freaking kidding. I thought long and hard about a couple of bids and got absolutely smoked...... blown away. It wasn't a coin with a gold bean either.

It was fun to look through them though. Nice bunch of coins.

I won nothing in Sheridan's auction, even though I bid 150% of PCGS retail. Same thing on all the Heritage coins. One coin sold at Great Collections 3/2014 for $938, so I bid a total of $1528 with the juice. This afternoon someone beat me by $100, and the coin has not closed yet. PCGS retail is $1050. Hard to believe.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

image That's possibly good news for me, as I have an 1838 Bust quarter in PCGS AU55 that's prettier than that one. Basically, it's the same coin with a little bit of pastel color mixed into the toning. Of course, mine hasn't been to CAC, so it might sell for $700 in the same auction. Buy the sticker, not the coin, right?

The pre-hype about the Hamilton auction helped to bring out a lot of buyers and added a little juice to the prices.

I bid on more coins in the Heritage auction than I ever have in a single auction. I ended as the under bidder on 13 coins (all far over PCGS price guide prices). Just couldn't close the deal. Plus, bidding on my iPhone while walking around Legoland Park with the kids wasn't easy.

I bidded strong on one cac gold , but not strong enough, I just let it go

    Oh I might add:

Just because the prices were strong on bust halves in this venue, doesn't mean somebody automatically should expect to get more for theirs in the future after this venue closes.

It looks like even the cleaned ones especially in better dates were selling strong. QII showed a lot of pluses.

I had one particular date on my radar and the prices went so high so fast that I never even got to place a bid. The coin sold with the juice for about 3 times the price.

Too rich for me. I'll keep looking.

I fell asleep waiting to issue a cut bid on Wed night and Friday had to take the wife to the American Club in Kohler. Purchased one coin, price seemed cheap when looking at 15,000 dollar tubs and 10,000 dollar showers. Don't even get me started on what a kitchen is going to cost me. Coin seems cheap
