A bolt out of the blue shook me out of a yeti mood

Been off the boards since Memorial Day weekend (long story) but a surprise package arrived in yesterday's mail and prompted me to set up my camera and share.

Happy Anniversary to our hosts!

    Welcome back, Gil!

How does one get one of these? I suppose I won't be getting one, since I let my membership lapse a while ago and haven't re-upped yet. image

Yes, how does one get one? Is it random?

I am thrilled that one of these ended up in the hands of a forumite, and seemingly at no charge. I did notice them on the PCGS website when I logged in to update "my inventory." I actually like the design considering it's a modern commemorative medal and I like proofs. I am surprised, though, that they didn't go a more traditional route. Many companies like to celebrate their humble beginnings on big anniversaries but this design is 100% looking to the future, IMO. But I digress ...

I have a membership that has not lapsed. I have not received one. "Limited to 500" so I am inclined to think only a select few, possibly 400 persons, will get one (gotta save a 100 or so for top employees and board members, after all).

    No, thanks. image

I'd use one as an extra slot-filler in my Box of 20 if I got it for free- that's a nice medal and throwback slab- but not something I must have.

PS- ten years from now I'll remember this when I see one of these on eBay at a REALLY stupid price, and will wish I'd bought one at the 2016 stupid price...

I'd rather buy PCGS stock on the NYSE.

No kidding. CLCT has had heck of a run lately, pushing $22/share and paying a solid dividend. I've been a shareholder for nearly a year and have made more off the stock than I have their holdered coins.

As for the medal I believe you can get one if you send in an order of 25 or more coins.

You might be waiting for some time, since the stock trades on NASDAQ. Looking at the financials and forecast, the company may actually earn its dividend in the current quarter (maybe for the first time?).

While they don't earn the dividend on a GAAP basis, they have earned it on a cash flow basis for some time. Understanding the difference between the two is why the stock has little interest as most just don't get it. Not a single analyst covers the stock and that is why I love it. It is an undiscovered gem. They tell you every day how many coins and cards they have graded and what their backlog is. Very easy to model future income.

If you say so, but I don't see that on the summary financials online. Not to get all wonky, but with an avg daily volume of just ~20k a single large buyer/seller can whipsaw the stock which can be both an opportunity and risk and explains the beta. I can certainly understand your position (esp if you got in early this year), but more of a spec stock which would need to be closely watched and carefully managed in terms of buys and sells. Just MHO.

At the Thailand show PCGS HK said if I submit an order at the show we'll get the medal but I didn't have any coins on me so they gave me this sample instead. I'm going up tomorrow again with some coins to slab.
