Apparently not everyone is interested in Varieties.

I, like so many others here in the forum, visit my usual websites looking at new arrivals and the existing inventory for something that may have been overlooked. I normally let the dealers know when I spot a CP Variety within their inventory that is not attributed as such. Most are appreciative and will add the FS Number to the description, hopefully after they examine it in hand, and sometimes adjust a price a notch. Others say that it is not worth the bother and let the collector find if they are interested.
While none of the varieties that I have identified (and not purchased) are earth shattering or double the apparent value of the coin, I don't think that it is worth the hassle to have it sent in for attribution ($18 fee through PCGS, reholder fee $12 and shipping both ways) for the dealers.
I feel better when the coin that has been sitting for a spell is sold after the variety is placed in the description...like I had anything to do with it (sarc).
Varieties...love 'em or not...they are out there.

I wish you would stop letting them know or at least let me know first.
My goal is complete a full variety set for my collecting area. Lots of over-dates, over-assayers and legend varieties to track down and I love the hunt!

I don't care about varieties either but you are ruining other collectors chance to find them on purpose ?

I've cherried pieces in unattributed holders and many raw coins. My favorite find was this 1961 Proof Franklin from an unopened proof set (yes unopened). No cameos in that set but the DDR made my year....

I realize that there some out there in "numismatic-land" who have not the time or the inclination to "cherry-pick, I thought that I was doing a fovor one this board previously by bring these that I have seen to light. Most of the dealers that I have been in contact with usually says "thanks" for the info, but rarely upcharge for the variety.
Just trying to help, but it seems that this type of help is not wanted at this time.
I will continue to lean forward and try not to fall on my face...again.
Thank you to those who sent PM's of encouragement.

Sad on my part...I did not think of it that way...keyword "think". There are times I wish I had an "undo" button.

Don't feel bad about it. If an unattributed variety sits unsold for a long time and sells only once you alert the seller, you still end up with a happy coin collector in the end! The cherry picker is no better and no worse than a coin collector that is willing to pay full price.

This is NOT true. There are cherrypickers (probably most of us) that look for unrecognized by the dealer varieties that we can score a cheap price on. Knowledge is key and those of us that look for certain varieties that are not disclosed hope to snag a coin on the cheap instead of paying up for that coin. If it sits for a "long time" then most likely it is not a variety that commands a premium. Dealer probably knows this but does not care as there is not enough increase in value (if any) to be worth his time and trouble.
Just leave well enough alone is all I'm saying....leave the cat in the bag.

If you feel the need to tip someone off throw a bone to someone here on the forum that collects that variety.
