I sent in a 1922 moustache to PCGS in the last submission that was ticky but still MS or so I thought. Got the grade: AU55....dang, just can't get those Peacies right! 0 for 3 now on my instincts on grades. Idaho Doc, et al, congrats on a great eye.

PS: anyone need a 55? Yeah, spam I know.

It's still the same coin........you thought it was MS.....so I bet it is a nice coin.image

I used to buy 1941-45 Walkers in 64 because I knew the people who sent them in thought they were 65.

Actually do not know why I sent it in. Will get it back in a couple of days and if I'm not too embarrassed I'll post it for a GTG.

There are lots of sliders in the Peace dollar world. Don't feel bad. I can hold my own in the 63-67 range, but have had my own share of sour surprises from the grading room. It's a fascinating series with a wide variety of strike and luster characteristics that can be strongly date dependent. I usually evaluate a Peace dollar by thinking about how they would grade a similar looking Morgan and subtracting one point. In other words, as a Peace dollar guy, most Morgans look over-graded by a point to my eye.

Most recent submission. You can guess the grades of those Peace Dollars. I'm waiting. What I wrote in my notes were MS 63 and MS 64. image
    They'll probably both be AU.

I don't know a whole lot about the series, other than after buying out a large estate and realizing I had both the 21P and 28P in AU58, it would be easy
to build the rest of the set in a comparable grade - hah!

You know, it wouldn't be all that difficult to assemble a VERY attractive set of Peace dollars in AU58. Might be a fun side project.......

Using that logic, you might as well buy 58's. They're cheaper.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the beautiful Peace dollars. I have a few and I have the "Mustache" variety. I have a hard time grading them too if it makes you feel any better. But I still like em.

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
