How did someone justify monetarily this submission?

It seems like a lot of money spent on grading fees and postage to have such a simple, basic coin graded.

For many people, monetary justification isn't a consideration.
And that's ok with me.
Wish they took a pic.
Sounds like it would be interesting.

Wasn't my money so I don't care if they're submitting the knockout tabs from electrical boxes.
100% agree
I'm wondering why it took 8 weeks to have the coin graded. Do error coins take that much longer?
Yes, they can. I believe that many/most/all are sent out to the specialists. FredW would be definitive answer on how it is done (absent DonW or someone from PCGS chiming in).
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Yes, errors can take longer than normal coin submissions,
but it normally does not take 8 weeks/2 months, unless
it's something very unusual or questionable.
I'd guess that 4-6 weeks is 'normal'.
Well that is a good question. Do they send all errors out to specialists?
I would hope not, but you never know. Probably 90% of errors are very easy to identify and it would not take much to educate a couple employees, or recruit a grader that is already familiar with errors.
But maybe that wouldn't be as easy as it seems, as there are currently many mislabeled error coins from all of the TPGs.
