Shipping Method to PCGS

I can't remember anyone asking this question.
The PCGS website recommends using Priority Mail with Registered Mail service for submitting coins because it includes insurance (up $50,000), more secured tracking and signature confirmation of delivery.
But for my Collectors Club free submission of 8 coins that I hope to send off tomorrow, the total value of the coins isn't high (like around $500). I'm thinking that I could save a few dollars in shipping cost by mailing Priority Mail and purchase signature confirmation and insurance from the USPS instead of Registered Mail. It should still get there, I'll have record of it getting there and I'd still be covered with insurance. And actually it'll get there much quicker than Registered Mail.
The question... Have any of you submitted coins to PCGS with USPS but not used Registered Mail?
Another question... Is there something I'm overlooking if I don't send it Registered Mail?
Thanks.

I love the 3 P's: PB&J, PBR and PCGS.

I always, regardless of value, send in a small Priority box without insurance, just tracking (it's free). Never have lost one yet and don't expect to in the future.

Thanks. I just needed that reality confirmation that I wasn't missing something.

I usually don't insure under $2,500 and then use Registered at $7,000 because it becomes cheaper per $1 insured.
I'm not interested in losing $7k to a thief.
I live close by. I've shipped Priority mail that left my PO at 5 PM and was received at PCGS by 5 AM.
I would never ship Priority or Express on a Friday or Saturday, especially if the package has to pass through a major airline hub. A lot of private insurers don't even allow it.
I've been insured by three different major companies in the last 10 years and have never had any weekend shipping restrictions on Express or Priority with any of them. Only fedEx has been restricted.

Same here. I ship priority and use shipandinsure. I can't and won't wait for slow boat registered.

Same here. I consider them self-insured.

I've done express.
I've done registered.
I've done priority.
I've done with and without insurance.
It has all depended on the coins I sent in and how I felt. My 55/55DDO went in registered and with insurance.
Some of my raw morgans (ms63-65) went in priority with no insurance.
Moderns have generally gone in priority with no insurance.
I will say that, no matter which method I used, I used the registered mail paper tape and I SECURELY packaged my submissions. I don't take that part lightly at all.

I have shipped single 5 figure coins by Express during the week though. For 8 coins of declared value ~ $500, I'd be sending them in a Flat Rate Express envelope.
I usually get my best priority service by shipping on a Friday or Saturday.

Registered is recommended, not required. For $500 I'd use flat rate box or envelope. As far as insurance there is little point in insuring the coins if you can't prove value in the event of loss.
