<< <i>Mr. Carr: Why not slab these in PCGS like slabs, but with your own logo and what not. It would help provide an inert holder for these. And for your contemplation (I do not want to side track the thread), it might also help ameliorate some concerns that your opponents have. >>

One thing I never liked about some mint packaging is that it tends to be bulky, and sometimes even pompous.

Early on, my packaging decision was that I would use non-PVC flips since they were compact for storage and shipping, easy to acquire and use, and one size fits (almost) all. This would allow the purchasers to use a packaging of their choice. I thought about having everything certified by ANACS, but some people didn't want them that way. And it would have been very inconvenient to have ANACS and non-ANACS product types for every issue (doubling the number of products that would have to be managed).

The "self-slabbing" route is a possibility. But that would require considerably more time for placing the coins in the holders and for packaging and shipping them. And I would need to maintain a stockpile of many different sized holders.

<< <i>Dan Carr I know you haven't made mercury dime , walking half ! 2016 anniversary 1916 coming up are you going to strike something before mint makes there gold? >>

Yes, I am planning to do some things later this year for the 100th anniversary of the three new 1916 coins.
Plans include fantasy-date over-strikes, as well as 40mm silver rounds in the same format as my previous 1913-2013 Indian Head Bison nickel centennial:

    image

    Potential fantasy dates include:

    Winged Liberty Head Dime: "1915", "1922", "1932", "1933", "1946", "2016".
    Standing Liberty Quarter: "1915" (type 1), "1922", "1932", "1933", "2016". (Already did "1931").
    Walking Liberty Half: "1915" (obverse mint mark), "1922", "1924", "1925", "1926", "1930", "1931", "1932", "1946", "2016". >>

    I don't understand the 1946 Walker. The 1922, 24, 25 and 26 would be an interesting set.

I would guess that since these coins that are toning were struck on original coins then the original coin surfaces may be coming back out, even though they were technically restruck?

The ones that were toning weren't the fantasy pieces but I see where you were going

    Yes.
"Dipping" won't destroy the holographic effect. But heavy tarnish might.

You can use "Tarn-X" silver cleaner from Wallgreen's (or similar).

I would suggest a flat-bottomed sandwich-sized Tupperware container (or similar).

Pour about 1/2 inch of cleaner into it and submerge the piece for about 20 seconds.

Make sure there are no air bubbles stuck to the metal.

Remove from the cleaner and rinse under the tap.

Make sure to do a complete rinse including the edges and your fingers.

Pat dry with a clean soft cotton bath towel. Never rub dry.

OK, Dan, we all want some hints as to what might be coming up on your minting agenda.

BTW, I got the last Clark, Gruber 1/4 oz. and really liked the improved die work which kind of gives the coin a matte proof look. Not so sure about the $500 denomination - can we just have the $5? Also liked the Amero "redos", especially of the CBH with pirate earring.

Yes, that is part of it.
First orders received are the first ones shipped. Most of the earlier pending orders included a 2016 silver "Owl" piece. I just got the silver strip earlier today for making the 100 or so of those that I sold via my web page. So I'll be minting those tomorrow and I'll start shipping tomorrow (Thursday) as well.

I just wanted to echo that I've had good results with Intercept Shield 2x2 boxes. Some Carr pieces not stored in these have started to tone on me.

Thanks Dan for all the advice in this thread and the update above.

Do you have any tips for conservation of brass and copper pieces? One of my fave brass pieces of yours looks to have picked up a speck of debris while in my care, which in turn led to localized toning. (More like spotting.) Is there a fix?

On mint brass and copper, I would suggest the Tarn-X (or similar) method I described earlier in this thread. Just don't use old dip solution that has turned yellow from "dipping" a lot of tarnished silver - doing so can result is a small amount of silver plating onto the brass or copper coin.

I hope my regular mail carrier is on duty when they arrive, she always gives me extra time to get outside.
