Well the results are in... Sucker punch to the stomach.. Genuine UNC Details Cleaned... I totally disagree with that. But for those of you who said it, please enlighten me. I saw no hairlines of any kind and the luster was strong. I'm just baffled right now..
Sorry to hear of the bad news. For me the surfaces just looked a little off from what they should look like. The reflectivity of your coin seemed to be a little too much.
To me it was most obvious on the obv around 3 o'clock. I think it's a good wiz job on it. Roll the coin and see if there is a break in the luster there. In hand that would be the easiest way to see it.
Sorry I was right. But just chalk it up to education. Grading or not it's a lovely coin and you should happy with it! Right? Why let a 3rd opinion ruin it for you.
Does it work that way all the time? My 3rd opinion is your wife is ugly and a horrible person Now you gonna think less of her? lol I thin not.
To be specific, IMO the cheek area, neck area, and the bridge of higher areas of the nose is what looks off to me, and that goes for both pics that were originally posted.
Edited to add: The areas drawn in red by AUandAG may also be bad like he states.
Without looking at it in person my best guess is someone took an eraser to it in the past. (Or similar) Second, you are buying a raw coin from a dealer for a high price. Those scenarios usually end bad for the buyer. There are exceptions, but the rule is generally a loss for the sucker.
When I get it back, I'm going to crack it out and shoot a video of the luster and surface. Then I will send it ATS and see what they think. I'm not going to give up after just one shot, but I'm not going to resubmit over and over and over again. Thanks for the tips guys.

It was not intended for you braddick. Connecticut hunted me down in someone else's thread to talk trash so I am just having some fun back. Cheers!
It just seems a total waste of money sending it back in. It looks totally cleaned from your images and now the world's greatest graders, 3 of them, and a finalizer have called it as such.
Move on and your next 4 coins are on deck. Remember, buying raw coins, if you are not as skilled as a grader, will cost you a fortune at the end of the day. (Especially buying high end coins.)
I have followed the thread silently and do believe your coin is quite impressive. I think I would resubmit. ATS is fine . . . but from what I have seen (not denigrating those who called it exactly right on the first grading) . . . this would have a shot eventually. The problem of course . . when do you stop resubmitting. It will eventually grade quite well, in my opinion, but it may be down the line excessively . . .
Good job . . .those who identified it as a problem coin.
I see the funky cheek and what look like wiped areas now.
Missed them first time around.
Good call to those who picked that up.
Chances are I could have nailed it with the coin in hand, but it's apparent that there are some pretty sharp folks on this forum who are quite good at grading/interpreting photos.
Sending it ATS is just sending good money after bad. And for what? Most love the coin and you did too. Shoot I did and still do and I called it details! Put it in a Dansco and love it still. It's still the same coin you all loved before. I don't understand all the love hate for the same coin based on TPG'ers opinion.
Tough break. If youre in it for the love of it, keep it and learn from it. If youre in it for the money, take it back to the b&m and try and figure something out. Or put it up for auction and see what kind of money you can get back.
I have learned this tough lesson, but you gotta move forward. Throwing more money at it solves nothing. Some coins are best left in the wild
Thank you to those of you who have given positive feedback. For those of you who gloat about being right, remember, even a broken clock is right twice a day, the rest of the time, it's worthless.
This experience has reaffirmed the arrogance of some of you. It also shows why some of you would never post a coin before submitting and only posting after you get the results you hoped for.
I can take the sucker punch to the stomach that I got on this one, but being kicked when down does not help. To those that offered their hand to help me up, thank you. I will get this to straight grade, because I am sure the call on this was wrong. Will I submit it 4 or 5 times? Absolutely not. But if you think trying just once and then giving up is the right call, your an idiot. Your more of an idiot to give up on one submission than to try 6 or 7 times.. When it does grade, and if I decided to report back on it here, I'm sure some of you would just be saying "You just got lucky, I think it's still a problem coin" and not say, it was judged wrong the first time around.
I will be posting the results of my other thread when those results pop. Just as I said I would on this one.

I don't see where people here are "kicking you when you are down", I see a lot of helpful information, and people trying to save you the money and trouble of sending it in again ATS. IMHO I do not think they will straight grade it either. I understand you are upset about the coin not getting graded the way you thought that it would. We have all been through it before and are just trying to pass on helpful information.

Here are a few of your comments. You were less than gracious to opinions. I am not here to tickle your ears.
I and others gave the opinion that we think it is cleaned. You say.........
I've looked this coin over under a 10X loupe and there are absolutely no signs of cleaning. No hairlines, nothing. There is a bit of discoloration on the obverse in the left field, but no micro hairlines or anything. It is virtually pristine.
Even after getting many tossing out MS67 or higher opinions to go along with your foolish 67+ declaration, because some of us think it is cleaned, you say................
Wow.... Super tough crowd.
Your images are overexposed was also stated by some of us. You say...........
I have thick skin. The images are not overexposed, there is no clipping in the highlights at all.
If your other coins do not go 65, you will be underwater and wasting a submission on super common coins. You say.....................
As far as being underwater on them, I don't think I will be. I got the PCGS membership specifically to submit that '83-CC.
So now that you are out at least a hundred on that 83-CC, and more coming since you are going to resubmit it more times, are you underwater now? (Not to mention you bought a raw cleaned coin for $500 bucks.) You say...........
You have not said it yet, but I am sure there will be more blaming and crying.
Finally, after you got some compliments, which you did not deserve, for being a man about this whole thing. You flush all that right down the toilet when you say.........................
For those of you who gloat about being right, remember, even a broken clock is right twice a day, the rest of the time, it's worthless.

Thank you MorganMan94.. I just got it back yesterday. By the way it shipped in one of those blue plastic PCGS boxes that another thread mentioned they were doing away with. So at least I got that. LOL
Interesting and educational thread I hadn't seen before just now. Too bad it went so snarky at the end. I applaud the OP for sticking it out and sharing the result with us. Maybe the coin will eventually end up in a straight-grade holder and maybe it won't. I would put my money with the graders though. I lived through a very similar situation with a raw semi-key date Peace dollar that I thought was a lock 65. It came back cleaned, and I just couldn't tell why. As the OP said, there were no hairlines and it had good luster. Strike was phenomenal, and it had virtually no hits. I showed it to a couple of Peace dollar dealers and they picked up on the problem right away. "Awesome coin. Too bad it was cleaned." It dawned on me that there was a gap in my understanding of original surfaces. I quickly learned the difference between original mint luster and a gently polished, reflective surface. It's subtle, but once you see it, you will always see it.
The look is very difficult to describe, and difficult to always interpret correctly from a photo. It's also easy enough to mask problems like this with a bit of toning. When you look a a few hundred nice MS coins, one like that will just seem "off."
Better luck on the submission of four. I truly hope it goes your way this time.
Thanks BryceM. I feel bad about how this thread turned south as well. I admit, I was really bummed when I got the news from PCGS and my ego took a hit as well. Needless to say, I was really low, but, I've bounced back.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I agree 100%.
I like the coin and hope you will get a straight grade.
since it is sold, i can post it.
