J-165B on eBay! You learn something every day

I just saw this listing and my heart sank as I realized my research for all these years was so inaccurate. I see that a J-165B looks like this.

Hey, hey. With such excellent photography and with 100% positive feedback, I don't see how anyone can question the authenticity of this pattern or the credibility of this seller.

If someone wanted to be mean, he might try to convince the seller to end the auction early for a private sale.

And if a group of people wanted to be really mean…

It's actually an inexperienced seller using eBay's Item Specifics option.

When listing you type in either a PCGS number or a date.
Then eBay lists all the coins that match and you select one.

This seller typed in 1854 and eBay gave a list.

The seller clicked on the "Sell Your" link for this coin:
1854 1C J-165b Original BN (Proof) Pattern Coin

-- Upon further review, they listed it in the Coins / Errors category, so maybe they got that part right. image

I notified him that, to my knowledge, it either wasn't a J-165B or it was a new find. He responded 6 hours ago that he'd fix it "ASAP." Does ASAP mean "As Slowly As Possible?"
