Serial # collectors - what do you collect

I thought I would start a thread that showed what crazy serial # combos people collect. I know what some of you like, but not sure what everyone likes.

I know CoolSerialNumbers - well, that one is kind of obvious. But there is CMCART that likes lots of crazy serial number combos, Les likes radars, Jim and his fascination with the number 61....

So post what type of serial #'s you like to collect. Maybe someone out there has a note that would fit into your collection....
Come and see a forgotten piece of history.....

I don't collect serials, though I do want a little frame of them with:

A true radar (prefix and suffix)
    A full ladder (up preferred)
    A full solid
    A super high serial
    A super low serial

All in small size because it's really just about the number - not that I'd kick a large size solid to the curb!

I just like 'em low(1000 or lower)-especially within my niche groups I avidly collect.Among the other notes I collect,I go after light green seals and I also go after high denoms....and so......

    My favorite serial numbers are:

    - 0-1 binary

    - 7-of-a-kind XYYYYYYY (especially X9999999 and X0000000)

    - 9999999X

    - solid

As primarily a collector of small size FRNs, as well as seeking all series and blocks of SF District Notes, fancy serials are more of a way to make collecting modern (or otherwise common) blocks and stars more interesting.

And for modern non-star blocks, radars and repeaters are often just as or even more available than non-fancy serials. But, ultimately, they are more fun.

  • Even though I don't really do it, collecting by serial is fascinating to me. There are so many different ways to do it and what to go after. Being a computer geek by some definitions, the binary collectors really hit home. I do like the Serial # 1's and I have several in my collection for depression scrip along with low serial #'s below 10. All very interesting - thanks everyone for sharing.

I remember earlier on here when some binaries were posted and I converted the serials to hex. I guess it didn't go over very well, so I stopped doing it via posts. I still do in my mind to keep me in practice though.

Nothing wrong with posting in HEX; try it using OCTAL sometime--it's a drag!!

In my younger days (before Excel formulas) actually worked on a Hex to Decimal/Decimal to Hex calculator program. Of course, one of my favorites is the "Nines Complement" system, it's fun and you should try it sometime. image

Les, I know this is OT, but why is octal a drag? I went from binary to octal to hexidecimal and the rest is history.

  • Hi All, long time lurker time for 1st post

My collection of fancy serials is in its infancy and evolving. I am picking up anything which catches my eye really and hence have a jumbled collection of just about everything , mainly $1 but I have a couple of $5 and $10 FRN's. Mainly modern notes to fit my budget.

I want to concentrate on Solids and (in my mind) true ladders , maybe also seven in a row and Super Radars while the hunt for solids and ladders are harder to find.

    Stu
  • Welcome to the group Stu.... We all started that way with what seems to be a small collection but it grows... I still remember the first depression scrip note I bought. I know exactly where, when, who and what I spent on it. $3 out of a dealers Miscellaneous box - City of Detroit $1 note.

I'm working on two sets right now.

Repeaters on matching districts like this:

    image

    I still need 00050005 on the 5th, 00070007 on the 7th, 00090009 on the 9th, and 00120012 on the 12th.

True radars (matching block letters) like this:

    image

I still need a KK block radar.
