Well, FWIW, most Chicago coin shows are "Chicago area" coin shows and are in the far-flung suburbs, which are pretty much like anywhere suburbia, USA. There might be a nut with a gun or a knife, but not usually.
The entire South side of Rosemont is right next to Chicago. They're neighbors. It is hardly a far flung suburb. And one of the biggest shows is held there.
The only thing that saves Rosemont from being as bad a Chicago is they didn't build a CTA spur out to Rosemont from O'Hare, and the natural barrier that is created by O'Hare and I-90. Purps are more and more using the trains as their mode of transportation.
I could get into the politics of why this is all happening, but I don't want to be pissed off for the rest of the day. I hope you understand.
There is a CTA train station a few blocks south of the Stephens Convention Center.
That's north of the Stephens Center, not south.

Yes it's a blue line stop, the same train that stops close to Bart's. The blue line goes right through the center of the city and ends at O'hare. The area around the Convention Center in Rosemant is safe. The village has a vested interest in keeping the area safe, the convention center, entertainment district, and casino(next suburb over) bring in huge revenue. There are always alot of police around and they have remote police monitoring in major traffic areas.
Even though they are close Rosement is a world away from Chicago. It's like any other coin show location, using common sense is key to avoiding problems.

That's what I was getting at; though "close" technically, Rosemont is a world away from Chicago, and yep, the blue line stop is just a few blocks north of the convention center (much more convenient than driving when I wish to go there.) Chicago, overall, is no more crime-ridden in parts than any other large American city. There are parts you don't want to be in at any time, others you can be in during the day, but probably not at night, and other parts relatively safe 24/7. All that said, I do indeed share the generally LOW opinion of the politicians in charge, most especially, mayor 1%.

Sad to hear this.
One reason I would never have a coin shop--it's just too dangerous.
No more dangerous than being a bank teller. What's dangerous is the thug life. Most of our young brothers who fall into those cracks die young.

Very sad and unnecessary
This is why I carry a gun High and tight on my hips, *****ed & Locked
Though not a gun "fan", per se, it and proper training are a necessity in my mind, if in the profession of a B&M dealer. You just never know.
