A Most Deserving Monster MS68 Quarter

I've been waiting to see evidence that this 48P quarter upgraded from MS67+ to MS68 since Deltadimeman originally had it graded about five years ago. Just logged on to Coinfacts and see that it is so.
A true monster quarter and deserving of the upgrade whoever got it done.

I'd like my copper well done please!

It seems that a lot of 68's are heavily toned?
I am not inclined to acquire coins with this type of toning only because it appears to me that they are well on the way to the "terminal toning" stage?
It is beautiful though!!!

Please note that I am not hating on this coin at all and that I actually do think it quite pretty. I am simply stating my recollection as one who has been in this niche since before PCGS awarded the MS68 grade at all to silver WQs.

Looks like a western sunset, gorgeous!
I was thinking closer to southern hemisphere Atlantic.
The TV image (below) appears a bit more lustrous.
It also shows numerous small tics that are subdued or absent on the OP's image.

But, I do love the look and the color.

I agree as well....
This TV show small hits to W's forehead on the obverse, as well as hits to the eagle's body/neck/leg on the reverse!
I just cannot get a feel for how the graders will react....
I wouldn't pay MS68 money for this coin!
But that's just me!

Am I reading this right ... that 1/2 point upgrade caused the PCGS Price Guide value to jump from $1,250 to $18,000 ?
That's a big increase over a subjective and changeable opinion.
Would it be of concern to most buyers that if you cracked this out and submitted it again and I might come back MS67.
In any case, I am sure the price of that even at the MS67+ level was quite a bit higher due to the toning/color premium.

Agreed. It's the BOMB!!!!!

I suspect it made my former pop 1/0 1948-P (super toned) quarter (previously worth $18,000) worth a lot less as the pop 2 coin!
I just saw that with the 1942-S quarter in MS68 that dropped about $10,000 between pop 1 and pop 2 in a recent auction.
As far as my constant loss of value in my Washington Quarter set due to nearly all my pop 1's now becoming pop 2's (in just the past few years) ... to quote DH ... "Have fun with you coins"!
And, yes, that coin has beautiful color!

Can you imagine opening a set and seeing that?
Yes I can , because I had the good fortune of doing just that . The coin is a real cherry bomb and looks much nicer than the TrueView .
Here's some pic's of the mint set this quarter was in.
Is that a trend with the toned coins?
While the coin is very attractive the whole idea of upgrading such coins leaves me uneasy. Am I the only one who feels this way?
Achieving at the MS68 plateau is one of the ultimate goals in collecting mint state moderns, that is if one has the funds to cover the multiple submissions it takes to get there. Only the collector with disposable funds and a backbone who likes the gamble of putting their grading wits to the test end up with the best coins.

But, with those obvious hits, I can't see 68.
But, again, killer moose color and luster.

I'd love to see the obverses of those dimes. Do you know what happened to them?

As wondercoin points out, it's the population but that certainly seems out of whack.

The right group of coin(s) for a submission, the right day, the right graders, the right submitter. Gets it done.
An absolutely superb coin whether MS67+ or MS68. Eye appeal seems to rule. How many times would that come back MS68 if cracked out and resubmitted say 10X?
