Need assistance 1823/2 quarter pedigree (R.L. Hughes: J. Hawkins)

If anyone can help, I'm trying to follow up on pedigree research with this example:

R.L. Hughes: Jody Hawkins sale
6-4-1980 Lot #1024. Sold at $14,500

It was graded VF-20

Any help is appreciated.

How do you correlate the Garrett example to the piece that the OP is researching ?

From the Heritage catalog listing:

"Ex: J. Colvin Randall; T. Harrison Garrett; John Work Garrett; The Johns Hopkins University (Bowers and Ruddy, 3/1980), lot 637; The Paulsboro Collection, Part Three (Heritage, 8/2004), lot 5927.

From The Joseph C. Thomas Collection." The Garrett specimen certainly would have included Bob Hughes in the provenance if they were same.

In the "Early Quarter Dollars of the United States Mint 1796-1838"

by Rory R. Rea, Dr. Glenn Peterson, Bradley S. Karoleff and

John J. Kovach Jr., the authors identify 30 examples of the 1823/2

quarter and provide a photo of each along with their appearance at

auction, lot numbers, dates sold and in some cases the amount

sold for.

The example pictured for the tenth group graded VF-30 are all pieces included in the Garrett sale pedigree of 4-30-09, lot 2325 at Heritage.

The op coin is not listed in that pedigree, but is included in the Rea, et al book, for the tenth group and is listed as R.L. Hughes Hawkins,

6-4-80, lot 1024, at $14,500.

All five of the coins listed in the tenth group are the same coin.

I appreciate the assistance LoveMyLiberty and Coindeuce, but, specifically, I am looking to find out if the coin was possibly owned by anyone in between-
1) R.L. Hughes: Jody Hawkins
and
2) Heritage: Paulsboro

24 years had passed

Is there reasonable cause to believe that someone other than the owner of the Paulsboro Collection owned the coin between June of 1980 and August of 2004 ? It appears that Hawkins was the buyer from the Bowers and Ruddy sale in March 1980, and it was consigned to R.L. Hughes in June 1980( Seems odd to me, a 3 month hold before reselling) . Why not contact Hughes and ask if he has documentation of the buyer from his sale of June 1980 ?

Coindeuce - 24 years may be correct but I do want to make sure if possible. I thought I'd start out here on the forum first for inquiry. I will try to make contact and continue on....

Your comment on Hawkins short ownership.....The answer lies in Hughes's write up in his catalogue:

"Jody became a professional golfer at the unusually young age of eighteen, being in turn the assistant at Glenbrook Golf Course for the City of Houston and Head Golf Pro at the Brock Park Holf Association for twenty-three years and Nationsl Golf Day Chairman for the Southern Texas Section of the Professional Holf Association for the past six years. In 1976, he was named Professional Golfer of the Year for the SouthernTexas Region.

Mr. Hawkins has placed his collection for auction in order to fund a new pro shop, cafe and club house. When this project is completed, he intends to start his second collection of rare American Coins

In a letter to us Jody stated, " the reason I contacted Robert L. Hughes to handle the sale of my collection, is that Me. Hughes' reputation for honesty and reliability is known in the coin world, and I feel that I will receive the best price for my collection"
