Never heard of this before: Cufic Glass Money

I was flipping though this scanned ebook "The Steinhardt, Guttag Coin Collections Public Sale 1929."
Anyway there is a section:
Lot 433
"Fine Collection of Cufic Glass Money" from the collection of Prince Philipp of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha
"Each piece described in German in an envelope. Large assortment of colory, usually clearly inscribed in Arab letters and figures.
I've never heard of Glass Money, does anyone have an example of this type.

Indians used glass money / beads for trade..
The island of Manhattan was purchased from the American Indians for 60 guilders in beads and trinkets back in 1626. Historians converted that to about US $24 in the 19th century.

Interestingly I came across this website about a glass manufacturing company in West Virginia who was pressing US silver coins into glass to make designs.
The website says the Treasury Department considered it counterfeiting and put a stop to the practice.
