Worn Morgans

Some Morgan dollars, even when (well) worn have a neat appearance.
I particularly like mine as it comes from a hoard of dollars that generally NGC didn't grade unless they were mint state.

Please, do post yours as there is such a varied appearance to this cartwheels in circulated conditions.

I'm beginning to think circulated Morgans are becoming increasingly rare...

-- well-worn examples are more likely to get melted,

-- how many were never cleaned or damaged?

Point is, I think lower-grade Morgans are under-valued and under-appreciated.

Nice coins. I prefer heavily, circulated Morgans.

I am putting together an XF'ish type set but the Morgan will be 25-30.

I like that look much better.

This one is part of a set I call the "former key dates" collection. Included are the 1881-CC, 1885-CC, 1898-O, 1903-O and 1904-O.

All of these dates were at least semi-key dates prior to the discovery of the bank hoards. I'd like to think that all of the coins in this set, because they are all worn, were once prized in a collectors set before the hoards were found.

I have all of them in XF45 or lower except for the 1904-O. If anyone knows of a 1904-O in sub XF grade I'd be interested in acquiring it to complete this set.

Maybe a crackout instead of a gold bean? There are scratches on the face, so JA may not like it, and perhaps it was silently net graded.

Yep, it's a VAM 22 if I remember correctly. Here's the slab shot:

Pretty sure those are graded now (I know he's been building a '78-S grade set) so I think he knows.

This one is still in an ICG slab, I'll have to get it into a PCGS holder eventually.

Thanks for posting your photos. Now I also agree it's undergraded.

I paid low-VG money for it -- so I'm happy. Anyway, no plans to sell, so I'll leave it as is.

Although it is tempting to do a CAC submission only because none of my ~100 slabs have a bean.
